More Tablet Fun

I mentioned yesterday that my wife wanted to shake up her tablet using ways. This directly affected me in two ways. First, as mentioned yesterday, I inherited a Nexus 7. The second, much more important way, is that I just inherited her iPad Air. Ah, retina display! I was using the second iPad 3. The one with the lightning connector. This one is newer, lighter, and smaller but with the same size screen. Jen, my love, has switched to an iPad Mini. So far we are both pleased.

I restored the Air with a back up of the 3 I made this morning. I’ve had some trouble restoring in app purchases. I hate those things. The big issue is that iTunes is telling me I can’t access iTunes Match for 42 days. Whatwhatwhat???

In unrelated news, while cooking lunch on the grill outside, I think I found the hawks’ nest. It’s really close to the yard. I’ll be camping outside with my camera soon.

Potentially a Bad Day for our Apple Products

This could be bad, Apple-y speaking.

My step son’s Mac won’t boot up. It’s getting a core dump on the screen with some debugger information when he turns it on. We haven’t had time to really investigate or troubleshoot but… ouch.

I also just started installing an update to Garageband.

The last time that happened it totally ruined my day.

Duck and cover, kids.

Happy Birthday, Mac

Today is the 30th anniversary of the Macintosh computer. I guess technically it’s the anniversary of the actual first Mac purchase. Or something like that.

You’ve come a long way…

GarageBand for OS X Mavericks Review

I had to upgrade GarageBand on my MacBook today in order to use files from my iPad. Here is a quick review based on my first thirty minutes or so of use.

The new Mavericks version of GarageBand…

SUCKS!

I HATE IT!

What did you idiots do? This was the best program on Earth for quick and easy recording projects. Now it’s GARBAGE!

I am so pissed off.

Very Short OS X Mavericks Review

I updated both of my Apple computers to OS X Mavericks. I haven’t really done much on the iMac since upgrading. I’ve been using the MacBook Pro while watching the two World Series games. I have two things to note about Mavericks:

1. The Good. I used to get about two hours, maybe a little less, worth of battery time. Since upgrading, I’ve gone from 99% down to 93% in about 30 minutes. That seems like a really good start as far as the battery life improvements go. Granted, I haven’t done anything more involved than posting to Twitter, reading Facebook, and posting this update to WordPress. Nothing major, but still a good start.

2. The Bad. I don’t know if this is related or not, but the time to boot up is insane. It’s like Windows bad. Really bad. I didn’t time it, but it took a seriously long time. I was very disappointed.

That’s all I have for a Mavericks review. I hope it helps you, loyal readers.

And in case you were wondering, David Ortiz just hit a two run home run to give the Red Sox the lead in the sixth inning of game two.

Go Red Sox!

Crazy Day

So much going on, it’s crazy. The World Series starts tomorrow, and if you hadn’t heard the Boston Red Sox are involved. I ran my group meeting for the first time today and magically nothing caught fire or exploded and no one died. Can you believe it? Mac OS Maverick is downloading on this iMac as I type this. Maverick… does that mean the next OS release has to be Goose? Did I mention that the Sox are in the World Series? I really didn’t dream that, it’s the truth. I think the cat may have barfed again. I just heard her trying to bury something under the tile floor. She hasn’t figured out yet that no matter how much she digs, nothing ever gets covered up. There is going to be an update to GarageBand. Just in time for NaSoAlMo. Cool, huh?

What else…

Oh yeah, the RED SOX ARE IN THE WORLD SERIES!
