Sleep

About 30 minutes after I finished cleaning off the driveway and the cars I looked outside and saw a thin, fresh, coat of snow covering both cars.

I give up.

Uncle!

No music this morning. I needed the extra hour and a half of sleep. We’ll try again tomorrow.

80 Minutes

Jen and I finished dinner at about 7:00. A few minutes later I was bundled up and walking outside to clean out the driveway. 80 minutes later the driveway is clear, the back steps are a little clearer than they were yesterday, the fire hydrant is more or less accessible (to skinny firemen at least), and I threw about 30 pounds of rock salt out onto the driveway. Mostly on the ice mound beneath the garage’s icicles.

Karma kicked my dumb ass tonight. If you dig back a little on this site you should find an entry where I sing the praises of a plow driver who went above and beyond the call of duty to clear the end of my driveway after having left me a nice ugly snow bank.

Today they did the opposite. They dumped their snow into my driveway. They didn’t just bury the end of the driveway, they buried the end of the mini van. The back end of the passenger side was piled on higher than the tire. I suppose it could have been worse if they had driven the plow straight into the driveway, instead of coming in from the side, but what they did was plenty bad enough.

I would like to extend a hearty thank you to the douche responsible.

Thank you, douche.

Screwy Winter Screwiness

I got up at 5:10am today and headed for the cellar. On the way I looked out a window and noticed that the huge snow storm that was supposed to be happening overnight hadn’t arrived yet.

Upon finishing the drum loop and scratch guitar for crappy-song-#3 I noticed that the snow had arrived. I looked out the window a minute ago and it was snowing like mad. Our road was a sheet of ice last night and it doesn’t look much better today.

Yippee, snow storm day 2 of 2.

Urgh.

ARGH!!!!

Again.

AGAIN!!!!

I just cleared a good 6-7 inches of snow off of most of the driveway. I got to leave work early due to the weather. I punched out at 3:16 and, with the exception of one stop for $50 in gas and a coca~cola, came home.

I pulled into the driveway at about 5:50.

Let me rephrase that… I got stuck at the end of the driveway at about 5:50. I got about 90% of the van off the street when the car wouldn’t go any more. I tried to back out and park on the street and I couldn’t go backward any more either.

I ran into the house, changed out of my work clothes, grabbed a shovel, and started digging out the front wheels. Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster for the wonder that is front wheel drive. I had to rock it a couple of times, but it came unstuck without much trouble. I packed it on the side of the road and started digging out the barrels.

Today is trash pick up on our street and the barrels were buried by the plows. Once the barrels were out of the way I broke out the snow blower. Thank you a million times to my in-laws, Charlotte and Sherman for the snow blower. At the time I thought it was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for us, but after all the use it’s had in the last few weeks I’d say it was a priceless gift. Thank you again.

Most of the driveway is clear. I didn’t kill myself on it as we are getting another foot or two tonight. (I haven’t checked the weather for tonight since early this morning so I don’t know if the forecast has changed, but whatever it is it is sure to suck)

I then dug out the fire hydrant. The snow banks are so high that the path gets a little narrower each time. If a member of the Methuen Fire Department should be required to use this hydrant (let’s all hope that doesn’t happen) then he’ll be able to get to it even if he’s as fat as I am. If, however, he is as fat as I am (which is really fat, let’s be honest) he will have to walk sideways. Sorry about that.

In closing let me say this: I want to find the person who wrote the song, “Let it Snow” and kick him in the balls. Really hard.

RPM Begins!

It’s February 1st! The RPM Challenge is under way!

Song #1 commenced this morning. It so far runs a whopping 1:46 or so.

Who cares, as long as it exists.

28 days… 35 minutes or 10 songs… I’ve never finished on time… Will this be the year?

Probably not, but again; who cares?
