They Call it Stormy Tuesday

This morning Jen got up first. The lights in the bedroom were off and the shades were down and I was lying there about 4/5 asleep.

I thought she was messing with me and flipping the lights on and off.

She wasn’t.

It was lightening. Even with the shades down it was bright enough to light up the whole room. Woah!

Now reality sets in… The traffic is going to be Horrible.

At least the Yankees lost and are now on the brink of elimination. The Rays are in the same boat. I’m hoping for an AL East free ALCS.

Good News/Bad News

This is going to be one of those good news/bad news kind of posts. It’s also going to be a short one, but at least it’s not another one of those pointless pic of the night jobbers, am I right or am I right? Right? Right.

The good news is that Texas just beat Tampa Bay to take a 2-1 lead in their division series. I hate you, Devil Rays.

The bad news is that the Yankees scored twice in the top of the first inning. Urgh, I hate you, Yankees!

Monday’s Suck

Hey, good news!  The Yankees lost last night.  Maybe there is justice in the universe, huh?  Granted the series is tied one game each, but it’s a best of three now and I become more of a Tigers fan with each pitch.

Want to know what is difficult?  The Slim Fast diet, that’s what.  It’s a simple concept and I do very well with it during the week.  It’s the weekend where it gets rough.  We went to a birthday party and had a big lunch on Sunday.  On Saturday we did slightly better than fast food by eating lunch at Fudruckers.  There are so many temptations.  There is a gas station very close to us where candy can be had easily.  There is a Dunkin Donuts even closer.  Oh and there are 21353 supermarkets on route 28 just over the town line in Salem, NH.

Monday through Friday it’s easy to stay motivated when you eat lunch and breakfast at your desk.  Saturday and Sunday, however, it’s just too easy to stray.  We’re going to have to work on that next weekend, but it will be even more difficult because it’s a kid weekend.  We have to feed the two of them and somehow manage to not feed ourselves?  It’s going to be sticky, I tells ya.

This past weekend was a three day weekend for me, thanks to my step-daughter’s invite to her school’s special friends day.  This week it’s back to the grind for the full week.  What can I focus on to make me feel better about the calendar?

One thing…

Thursday is opening night for the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins.  Let the title defense (or the championship hangover, whichever) commence!

Go Tigers!
Go Rangers!
Screw You Yankees!
Screw You Rays!

GO BRUINS!

Items of Note

Three items of note on this Sunday morn.

First, I still hate the Yankees and the Rays with fiery passion. The Rays lost last night. That is good. The Yankees won last night. That is the opposite of good.

Second, I am still, after 40 years of painful dedicated practice, the world’s worst gift wrapper. Today is a birthday party for both of my brother’s kids and I just finished wrapping their presents and… Well… It’s not good. ‘Nuff said.

Third, I used the phrase, “he who smelt it dealt it” in the single most original way in the history of the English language today and it failed to elicit even a slight giggle out of my wife. Damn, sometimes it’s tough being married to a writer.

MLB Division Series Picks

I would like to give an unbiased, well analyzed set of pics for the MLB division series but I am way too close to it, and hurt by it, this year so I am going to give extra biased, analysis free picks.

Ready?

I’ll start with the National League because I am so pissed off at the American League.

Cardinals vs Phillies: The Phillies all the way. Their superhuman pitching staff cannot lose. That and when I was 8 years old my first youth baseball team was called The Phillies.

Diamondbacks vs Brewers: The Brewers for three reasons. One, I’ve been to Miller Park and it’s nice. Two, I saw the Diamondbacks play in San Diego on our honeymoon and I was rooting for the Padres but the damn D-Backs won in 18 innings. Three, the Brewers are just due. I mean, how much suffering can a non-Boston team take? Really. (Cubs excluded, of course)

On to the American League.

Rays vs Rangers: The Rangers because they are an excellent team and THEY AREN’T THE EFFING RAYS!

Tigers vs Yankees: The Tigers because they are an excellent team and THEY AREN’T THE EFFING YANKEES!

There you have it. Now let’s all get together and root for the total destruction of the Yankees and Rays. I want them both beaten so bad that their mothers cry.

Thank you.
