The players all held the Stanley Cup one last time. The team’s top executives all made speeches; Jacobs, Neely, and Chiarelli. Chara spoke for the players. Ference presented the ugly player of the game jacket thing to Recchi. Members of the 1972 Cup team, including Bobby Orr, came out to help raise the banner. Finally, the banner went up to the rafters as an endless symbol of the 2010-11 Stanley Cup Championship. The crowd went nuts. The good vibes in the building must have been overwhelming.

Then the game, and the title defense, began. The Bruins came out flying and took a 1-0 lead in the first.

Then they fell asleep for the rest of the game. Philly scored twice in less than a minute span in the 2nd and that’s how it ended. Flyers 2, Bruins 1.

Okay, Bruins, the honeymoon is officially over. It’s time to not suck! Let’s not tank for 40 minutes like that again, eh?

I sure did enjoy seeing six banners hanging from the Boston Garden rafters.

Something sports related that should make me start to recover from the Red Sox and the worst September collapse in Major League Baseball history.

Tonight is opening night for the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. The banner will hang from the Garden rafters, and the title defense will begin.

I had my Apple fanboydom questioned today because I wasn’t running out to get my mitts on a new iPhone4S when I had to remind those within earshot that along with my iPhone4 I own an iPad2 (I’m typing this very post on it) and a MacBook Pro and an iPod Classic (80 gigs) and an iPod Video (currently used only for Audiobooks and Rush bootlegs) and an old 2 gig iPod Nano that is the exclusive home of all the Christmas music my family owns.

How dare anyone question my Apple allegiance. My first computer was an Apple IIe. I learned how to sequence and edit digital audio on a Mac. I spent my last 3 years in college doing most of my work on a Mac.

I’m not the biggest Apple fanboy out there, not even close, but I do wave the flag proudly.

Steve Jobs passed away tonight. It’s a sad day for all of us. Rest in Peace.

Here is yet another good news/bad news post. It’s kind of a theme, although for once I promise not to bitch about the Yankees.

The good news is there was no additional water in the cellar. I came home from work and we were still dry. I emptied out the dehumidifier and turned it back on (it had been off since bed time last night) and after two hours there was no real rise in the water level. Let’s hope for a nice stretch of dry, sunny days.

The bad news is the damn tree is still standing. I am so sick of worrying about that friggin’ thing falling on us.

Back in late July we finally, after weeks or months of trying, got someone to talk to us about cutting down the nearly dead tree in our front yard.  It was a landscaping business who contracts to a tree removal business.  He told us 10 days.  We’d have the final word in 10 days.

July… August… September… October…

At this rate it’s going to be 10 friggin months.  After waiting months just to get a friggin appointment (while every other tree removal service in New England continued to blow off all of our phone calls) they have now told us twice that they were coming to take the damn tree down, and twice they have blown us off without any word prior.

They told us they were coming on Friday 9/30 and they canceled.  They told us they were coming today and they canceled again.  Now they are coming this Friday.  What will the excuse be then?

I am so sick of this crap.

Today is take two of tree removal appointments. Will it happen today?

First the bad news…

We had all of the water cleared out of the cellar by a 2:00ish today (40 gallons or so). I went downstairs at about 7:00 and we were still dry. The new dehumidifier was still running and all was well.

I went downstairs again at about 8:30 and we had water. Not a lot, but underneath the suspect window there was a puddle. It took me about 10-15 minutes to wet-vac it all up, but it was still pretty distressing.

I’ll check on it again in the morning.

The good news? The Tampa Bay Rays were eliminated today! The Texas Rangers have advanced to the American League Championship Series. Thank you, Rangers!

The Yankees are up 2-1 against the Tigers in the fourth inning, but Detroit is threatening to score. If Detroit wins the Yankees will be out of it and today will be a great day for we pissed off Red Sox fans. Go Tigers!
