Wikipedia Takes the Fun Out of Stuff

In my first post of the day I mentioned my step son not knowing why the Batman villain The Penguin is called The Penguin.  I know the story from the second Tim Burton movie but I was wondering if any of the animated television series might give a version of the origin story as well so I went to wikipedia to see what it had to say.

Apparently in most versions of the Batman comic book story lines, The Penguin is just a gangster who owns a night club.  I was so disappointed.  I want Burgess Meredith, damn it.  Also, based on the little research I’ve done, the animated series never does a show on The Penguin’s origins.  I found a comic that covers the story, but amazon is out of stock.  Damn it.

I told my step son that it was now my mission in life to get him acquainted with the bigger Batman bad guys.  My step daughter seemed interested, but my step son wasn’t.  Oh well.  Maybe we’ll try the first Tim Burton movie and see if that sparks some interest.

Something’s Coming from Apple

This made me laugh.

About an hour from now Apple is having a conference where it is expected they will debut the 3rd generation iPad and make my awesome 2nd generation iPad nearly obsolete.

But that’s not what this is about.

I am sitting at work listening to the Experience Edition of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here album via iCloud using iTunes.  When “You’ve got to be Crazy” ended (that’s a 1974 version of 1977’s “Dogs” from the Animals album for those who aren’t in the know) I expected the Roger Waters vocal version of “Have a Cigar” to begin, but it did not.  Nothing happened.

I brought up iTunes and there was a message stating that the terms and conditions had changed and I would need to agree to them again before I could continue.

And this happened an hour before an Apple event.

Is it safe to say that there are changes to iCloud coming?  I think that’s a good bet.  Hopefully it has something to do with improving the performance over 3G, but that’s just a red headed iCloud user fantasizing.

More important than all of this:

Rush is a Band has just announced that the release date for the new Rush album, Clockwork Angels, will be May 29th and that it is available for pre-order from Amazon.

New Rush!  I can’t wait!

I also investigated the possibility of getting tickets for Roger Waters’ performance of The Wall at Fenway Park on July 1st.  Nope.  I don’t want to go to that any more.  I want to save my pennies and go see Rush 100 times this year!  WOOOHOO

(And the fact that the only tickets remaining for the Roger Waters show are $255.00 a pop for seats on the field may have something to do with me not wanting to go to that show anymore.  Let’s just stay home and watch the movie in surround sound the way I did over the weekend.)

Win!

It was nice to see the Bruins offense show up last night.  They beat Toronto 5-4.  Five goals is a good showing.  Four goals against, not so good.  Thomas and the Defense need to step it up.  It was a youth movement last night.  Two goals each for Seguin and Caron.

Here’s the nhl.com highlight reel:

We will find out about Marty Turco by noon today.  If he clears waivers he’ll be a Bruin today.  If he does not clear waivers, the team that takes him is not allowed to play him as that is the rule for waiver claims on new signings after the trade deadline.  Hopefully we get him.  He’ll help us… I hope.

Yesterday was Super Tuesday and Massachusetts held it’s primary election.  My wife and I were discussing the President and the races last night.  I kind of wish the Democrats had someone running against the President.  He will get my vote in November, but I really am disappointed in the administration.  He had the nation in the palm of his hand when he was inaugurated.  There was so much hope and optimism, and he’s squandered it completely.  He’s still better by far than any of the Republican candidates, but I wish there was some one better on the Democratic side.

That, ladies and gentlemen, should be my last political discussion until the general election in November.  I hope you enjoyed it while it lasted.

Go Bruins!

Injuries

Horton is out.  Peverley is out.  Ference is out.  Paille is out.  Rask is out.  That’s 25% of the Bruins regular game time line up.  The team is playing at a level of mediocrity that is alarming.  Let’s recap:  They sucked horrendously in October.  They were the best team on the planet in November and December.  They have been half assed at best through January and February and into March.  Will the real Bruins please stand up, and will those real Bruins please turn out to be the ass kicking November/December team?

It’s all going to be okay though.  We’re saved.  Yesterday the B’s signed 300 year old washed up has been playing in Europe Marty Turco.  Like I said, we’re saved.

Okay, that’s mean.  Turco is actually 36 years old.  He was once a great goalie but those years are definitely behind him.  I would bet that he’s still good enough to be an NHL backup.  He’s going to be a step down from Rask, but anyone would be a step down from Rask.  He will probably, and I have to stress probably as he hasn’t been in the NHL for a while, be a step up from the two goalies we have in Providence.  Unfortunately he still has to clear waivers so the Marty Turco era cannot begin with tonight’s game against the Maple Leafs.

I did come up with a novel way to ease the pain of the current Bruins funk last night.

I listened to the Red Sox on the radio.

Sure the Red Sox aren’t going to be all that great this year, but it’s Spring Training and anything is possible.  Optimism abounds for the Red Sox!

I Feel Like an Ass

Kevin, my now ex-drummer just came and picked up his drums.

I feel like I let everyone down.  I got their hopes up and then dashed them.  I felt selfish for having wanted to start the band when I only had so much family time available to me, and now I feel selfish for wanting out of the band I felt selfish for being in in the first place.

The good news is that Kevin just told me that he and Mike are planning to continue without me.  I told Kevin that I’d be the first one through the door when they play out, and I mean it.
