90’s Rock Nerd Giggle

Did you know that the recent Deluxe Edition of the album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins has 92 tracks and runs for 5.8 hours?  I am in the midst of a full blown 90’s rock nerd giggle with glee fest over this record.  I was in pretty much the same state back in 1995 when the album originally came out.  I was much the same in ’93 when Siamese Dream came out, and in ’91 when I first heard Gish.

I am the target audience for these reissues.  Someone who was in college when the band was at its height, who is now an old fart with a desk job and money to spend on things like this.

92 freakin’ songs!  WOOHOO!

Posterous Broke WordPress

Yesterday I posted two little Hipstamatic pictures via one email to my Posterous account.  At the time I noticed that the format of the post to WordPress was a little screwy.  Today I noticed that my sidebar was posting at the bottom of the page.  I guessed that the two pic post was the culprit and deleted it.  The sidebar returned to the side.  Strange indeed.

I don’t want to have to worry about crap like this.  I want Posterous and WordPress to play nicely and I want everything to continue to work the way it did when I set all of this garbage up a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, I am in quite the Hipstamood right now so here are those two pictures again.  This time hosted by Flickr.

Return to Reality

Today is the ultimate in down sides.

After all of that build up and two full days of celebrating, Christmas has come and gone. Here we are on the day after… Getting ready to go to work. Is there a bummer bigger than a mid-week Christmas when you are not off of work on the 26th? Probably not.

I took a few pictures yesterday of Christmas at home and at my sister’s, but I don’t think I got anything particularly good. We failed at controlling the chaos for the most part so there are few, if any, clear shots of kids experiencing the thrill of Santa. I’ll try to sort through everything tonight and do a proper recap over on the private Blogger page. There might be a random star atop the tree pic or two here as well.

I hope you all had a merry Christmas, and if you don’t have to work today I am totally jealous.

HoHoHo!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate. To everyone else, may you have an extra happy day.

Santa came, the gifts have all been opened. It’s a happy Christmas morning at our house. I love my family and I am so very happy.

HoHoHo!

Christmas Eve Bullet Dodged?

I have two step kids. The oldest is 11. This is her first Christmas knowing the Santa Claus secret. The youngest is a little more than a month shy of turning 10. He is still a believer, but its a close call.

We might have blown it tonight… Maybe. Probably not, but maybe.

All day long he’s been psyched to the point of spontaneous combustion. He mentioned early this afternoon that he might have trouble falling asleep before Santa’s arrival tonight. I just shrugged it off because I knew he was already hyper enough to be wearing himself out.

Not quite.

We let him stay up a little late, but when bed time came along he went quietly. His sister stayed up late too because she wanted to help Santa. We waited about half an hour after bed time and peeked in my stepson’s room and he was wide awake. My beautiful wife, his mother, sat with him for a little while trying to get him to relax. Apparently he was scaring the crap out of himself in two ways. First, he thought an episode at school might have put him on the naughty list. We assured him that was not the case. Second, he was afraid that if he’s awake at midnight then Santa would skip our house. We assured him that too was incorrect. He seemed okay, and he had a little warm milk.

All was well. Santa came and dished out the gifts, ate the cookies, fed the carrots to the reindeer, and drank the milk. He was starting to fill the stockings. All were taken down, one was returned to the mantle, a second was about to be re-hung when a knock came on the door.

Crap!

I kept him out of the room on a pretty thin pretext, but he could probably hear what was going on. He didn’t seem to figure out what was going on, but who knows. We calmed him down again and told him that he had nothing to worry about and he went back to bed okay. But I am worried that he heard more than he let on, or that he is laying in bed putting two and two together right now.

…and the clock creeps toward midnight with me fearing we might have blown what is probably his last real shot at being a true believer.

HoHoHo.

Less Than Six Hours to Go

My step son is not quite 10 years old and he is freaking out with Christmas anticipation. Within an hour of getting home from work today he asked me twice if I was excited for Santa. He’s also asked if he should go to bed an hour early just to make sure he’s asleep by midnight. On top of that, he wants a glass of warm milk at bedtime.

Having kids at Christmas is the coolest thing ever!
