Overslept

File under -Obligatory End of Daylight Savings Time Post-

We overslept this morning. I was hitting snooze in my sleep for more than three hours. Woah! I had to get out of bed to pee (TMI at it’s best) at 8:15. While I was up I checked the clock on the cable box in the living room. It said 7:15.

Oh yeah, kiddies. Daylight Savings ended last night and we gained an hour! WOOHOO! We overslept but not as bad as we thought we did! Yes!

Back at It

It’s November 1st and you know what that means, music fans:

National Solo Album Month has begun again.

Last night at midnight I was laying in bed, unable to sleep, when I noticed the clock was about to strike midnight. I grabbed my iPad, brought up GarageBand, and when 12:00am came I started noodling through an idea. That’s one song in progress!

I don’t have a plan this time. I was vaguely thinking of using the 12-string more often. That was actually the plan I started with last year too. I’m also thinking of trying to make all of the songs be on the longish side, although I have no set definition of “long” in mind. Six minutes? 10 minutes?

We will see what happens.

Busy Day

Today was one of those days that started off busy and got busier as the day wore on. I’m still feeling sick, but I’m a little better. I was pretty run down by the time 5:30 rolled around. It’s good to be home. The only way it could be better is having the love of my life home with me, but that can be said about every situation I’ll ever find myself in for the rest of my life. It’s always better when she’s around.

Not sure what I want to do with my time tonight. I’m thinking of just sacking out until bed time. I’m feeling pretty beat. At least I can sort of breath through my nose now. That’s all sorts of win.

FiOS Mobile

Weird…

When we first switched back to Verizon FiOS I tried viewing live TV on their mobile app. It didn’t work for me. Either something changed or I did something wrong because it worked tonight. I’m not sure what possessed me to try again, but The Walking Dead sure seems a lot longer with commercials. Heh heh.

Sounds

If you were to visit my house this morning, it would sound like the following:

Rob: cough cough cough cough
Jen: cough cough cough
Rob: cough cough gag cough moan
Jen: cough cough wheeze “hand me a tissue please?”
Rob: cough cough “here you go, love” cough cough
Jen: wheeze wheeze cough cough
Rob: blowing his nose sneeze blowing his nose moan moan cough cough
Jen: cough cough gag cough cough
Rob: cough gag cough cough spit cough weird stomach rumble

That about sums it up.

Jack Bruce

I wish I could tell you how many times Jack and Eric and Ginger and I jammed like nut jobs in my old bedroom in my parent’s house when I was a kid. Hundreds, at least.

The three of them would be playing on my cassette deck and I’d be playing my Les Paul Deluxe through that big Peavy amp. You now, the one with the chorus built in?

I’d pop on the live half of Wheels of Fire and we would melt brains with that epic, marathon run through of Willie Dixon’s Spoonful. Then we’d blow the walls down with that hyper driven arrangement of Robert Johnson’s Crossroads. Then I’d swap out the tape and we would burn down what was left of the house on side one of Live Cream Volume 2. Deserted Cities of the Heart, White Room (still the highlight of everyone’s musical career), Politician, and finally the best version of Tales of Brave Ulysses ever imagined in this or any other universe.

I learned to play the guitar by stealing from Eric Clapton, that’s true, but I learned to write and arrange music by stealing from Jack Bruce. I’d like to say I learned to sing by stealing from Jack Bruce too, and I definitely tried, but I could never even get to the same planet.

I never met him. Sadly I never saw him play live either, but now that he’s passed away I feel like I’ve lost an old dear friend.

Rest in peace, Jack Bruce and thank you for a lifetime of music.
