A Halloween Haiku for you. More like a movie reference though.
To quote Highlander:
Happy Halloween, ladies.
(The bad guy says that)

October 28, 2024… the worst day of the year.
Why?
I had to go out this morning to run a couple of errands. I needed to go to the supermarket to grab something I can cook for dinner tonight. As I was putting on my coat I asked Siri to tell me how the current weather looked. She answered on our bedroom Homepod and said it was snowing.
Bullshit. I looked out the window. Everything was wet, as if we had a little rain not long ago, but there was no snow falling. I felt better about the state of the world in that exact moment, but the seed had been planted. The signs pointed to today being a serious downer.
When I got to the supermarket and got out of my car it happened. I saw the first snowflake of the year. It was followed by a second and a third and maybe a few more, but that was it. In the time it took me to walk from my car to the building it had started and stopped. When I left a few minutes later it had not started again, and it continued to not snow all the way home.
It doesn’t matter though. The first snow flakes have fallen. Winter has truly arrived. It is all down hill from here, folks. It’s all over.
Is Robin taking an interest in guitar? Might there be lessons in her future? Lily could not possibly care less.
Lunch with the kids in Burlington, VT.
We use this particular McDonalds bathroom every time we drive up to visit the kids. Every time.
Early voting in Massachusetts has been open for a week now. In my city the polls opened at 9:00am today. I got there at about 10:30, maybe a few minutes after that.
What was the best part of the experience for me? Apart from actually casting a ballot for Kamala Harris, I mean.
The best part was… there was a line. When I got into the room there were probably 8-10 people actually voting and five people in line in front of me. I get that it was a Saturday and not a weekday and all, but folks in my city are coming out to vote and it’s not even election day yet. Good on you, neighbors.
Given how down the nazi rapist felon asshole orange fucker is about absentee voting and the like and how his cult members follow his word about everything, it is actually a safe bet that few if any of the early voters around town are voting for him, and most if not all are voting against him. Here’s hoping, at least.
Harris/Walz ’24.
One vote closer to removing the fascists again.
I had my whole weekend planned out but now that it is here I just feel lost. I need to vote, I need to go grocery shopping, I need to carve the pumpkin I bought last week, I need to see if I can fix the fret buzz on one of my guitars (though the more I read up on possible causes and solutions the more terrified I am to start tweaking a 35 year old instrument).
I mean, my to do list is nice and full… why do I feel lost today? I was hoping a good nights sleep would straighten out my brain but that didn’t help at all. I’m sure it’s nothing and once I get the ball rolling today I will be out of this fog.
I don’t know. We’ll see. Happy Saturday to all of you, and may your personal to do list be full of things that make you happy while being easily achievable. Let’s all have a day full of completed goals, what do you say!
A haiku for you inspired by the upcoming US election. Let’s do this!
Are you ready yet?
Ready to go to the polls?
It’s time to end this.
It has been one of those days. Everything that has happened today has rubbed me the wrong way. Well… maybe not everything, but most things. Why? Is it because the Bruins were shut out last night? It could be. Is it because the fucking Yankees are in the World Series? It might be.
Here’s hoping the drive home will be a turning point. Granted I will have to stop for gas before I get home, but I am finally going to finish my JRR Tolkien deep dive/audio book re-read. Well… I listened to the Silmarilian (boy, was that rough) and about 15 minutes into tonight’s commute I will complete The Lord of the rings (much better, except for all the singing… ouch). Up next in my Audible queue is Stephen King’s new short story collection. That should be a nice palette cleanser after all the Middle Earth fantasy. I guess I should read The Hobbit too, for completeness, and anything else that Tolkien may have published that I have never read. Naw, let’s get into some King for a while.
Once I get home the plan is to make a quick dinner for me and the love of my life. Burgers (fried on the stove) and fries (fried in the air fryer). Then we’ll sit down in the living room and enjoy a quiet night together making fun of our clinically insane cats. As per usual.
Here’s hoping for a fun, quiet night tonight and a less stressful work day tomorrow.
