I was so wrong. After correctly picking the winner of both wild cards and all four division series, I got both league championship match ups wrong. I’m 6-2 now.
I predicted a Cubs vs Blue Jays World Series, but we have Mets vs Royals instead. Oh well, I guess I get to be a Royals fan again.
After picking both wild card games correctly, and then picking the first three Division Series’ correctly, it was probably too much to ask that the Dodgers win and let me run the table for a second round in a row. Jerks.
I picked the Cubs, the Royals, and the Blue Jays, but I failed to pick the Mets. That makes me 5-1 this playoffs.
Now, for the League Championship Series’, both of my favorites are still alive so I will pick them.
I’ve always liked the Royals, and I try to never pick American League East teams unless they are from Boston. This year though, I’m going with the Blue Jays, and after the way game five ended, how can you pick against them?
In the National League I am sticking with the Back to the Future prediction and going with the Cubs. If it works for Marty McFly, it works for me. Also, the Mets are from New York. Screw New York. Go Cubs.
So my prediction is for a Toronto vs Chicago World Series. Let us see how things unfold.
When it comes to home run show boating and bat flips… this is pretty close to the best ever.
The game was tied in the top of the seventh. The Rangers had a runner on third. After a pitch, the catcher went to throw the ball back to the pitcher and the throw hit the batter’s bat and rolled down the third base line. The runner on third scored to give the Rangers the lead. Weirdest thing I’ve ever heard of in a baseball game.
Then in the bottom of the seventh one Ranger’s player (sorry for not being up on the names, I’m doing this from the slightest bit of memory) made three (3) THREE! errors to load the bases. A single brought in the tying run. Then…
Jose Bautista destroyed the ball and drove it into next month, stood at home plate to watch it go out, then gave the meanest, angriest, most pissed off bat flip ever in the history of ever. Obviously the Rangers were pissed and the benches cleared.
Normally I am on the side of act like you’ve been there before and don’t show boat, but in this case? Following the dumbest play in the history of the playoffs? You flip that bat, Jose, and you suck it up and deal, Rangers.
Now, to change the subject, I should probably wait until tomorrow to mention this, but three of the division series have ended and the team I picked won all three. If the Dodgers win tonight I will be perfect in picks for the post season.
Obviously I just jinxed it though, so if you’re a Met’s fan… you’re welcome.
Oh yeah, and the Bruins won last night! Can you believe it? The standings as of this moment: The Patriots have four wins with 12 games to go, and the Bruins have one win with 78 games to go. It’s gonna be close!
Did I hear that correctly? The Cubs won a playoff series? Really? Not only did they win, but they won at home! They’ve never clinched a post season series at home before.
The Cubs won a playoff series! Well… it was just a playoff game, but it counts if they advance to the next level.
The Division Series is set. Both teams I picked in the wild card play ins won. (I’m 2-0 for the post season so far!)
In the American League we have the Rangers and the Blue Jays. Despite being an AL East team, I am picking the Blue Jays to win the pennant. Why? Because I hate it when pundits talk about how big moves at the trade deadline never have all that big an effect on the standings. Well, the Blue Jays went all in at the deadline and took over the division after that. So the pundits can suck it. (The Mets did the same thing, but I ain’t picking them cause they are from effin’ New York. Screw that)
We also have the Royals and the Astros. As I said before, all the Astros get for winning the play in is the honor of losing to the Royals. Enjoy it!
In the National League we have the Cubs and the Cardinals. The Cubs don’t have a prayer but I’m rooting for them. Why? Go watch Back to the Future II and find out. 2015 is the year. It’s destiny, and Marty McFly has money on it.
As for the Mets and the Dodgers? I hate them both. Not only that, they are both New York teams (sort of). I have to decide which team I hate the least. The Dodgers, I guess. I’ll pick the Dodgers. I’ve been to Dodger Stadium, so I guess that clinches it.
So in summation, the League Championship Series round will be the Blue Jays and the Royals in the AL, and the Cubs and Dodgers in the NL.
I turned on the Red Sox game just in time to see the final out of the season. Mercifully it is over. All of the players came out of the dugout, turned to the broadcast booth, and saluted Don Orsillo. Class act. I’m very glad I got to see that.
See you next year, Red Sox. Please don’t suck again.
The Red Sox have been dreadful this year. A complete embarrassment. No one thought it would be this bad again.
Or so I thought.
I just looked at the standings. They are 73-80 right now. They have nine games remaining. If they could magically go 8-1 over those nine games they would finish the season at 81-81 for an even .500 record.
Prior to the season starting my thought was that they would not be very good this year, but they would be better than last year. I thought the upside would be a .500 record. That or something close to it.
By June I had changed my tune. Last place with a bullet! They suck to high heaven! They are going to lose 100 games!
Who knew that my original prediction was going to be so close to correct. They have a legitimate chance to finish only a few games shy of .500. I am totally shocked! It is amazing what can happen when you are out of contention before the all-star break!
