In Case You Were Wondering

As is tradition, the Owl ornament is the second highest thing on the xmas tree. Second only to the star.

  1. I’ve been learning about ancient Greek coins, and the owl was a symbol used by the Athenians. The owl represented protection (the watchful eyes of Athena, guarding the city and its people). Guarding against misfortune. Is that what it means to you in the context of the tree… or it’s just a cool ornament?

  2. It’s just a cool ornament. When I was growing up my sister and brother and I always got a new ornament every year. We called them The Specials. In 1977, the year my brother was born, we all got ornaments of Winnie the Pooh characters. The Owl was mine. Somewhere along the line I decided that the Owl had to be the highest ornament on the tree. When my wife and I moved in together, the Owl was the only ornament I took with me and I have made sure the tradition continues. Maybe when I am gone one of my step kids will take it and carry on the tradition. Probably not.
