Stanley Cup Finals – Game One

I found out today that ESPN hired former Red Sox announcer Sean McDonough to call the Stanley Cup finals. He is the single worst play by play announcer in the industry and I hate him more than all other announcers that I hate combined. It sucked most of my interest out of the series.

I also didn’t know who to root for. I once considered myself an Avalanche fan, but that was just because Ray Bourque ended his career there. I do not like the Lightning because my Bruins have faced them so often in the post season. Also, they are from Florida. I mean… hockey in Florida, right?

You would think that would make me an Avs fan for this series, but there’s also the possibility of an honest to goodness dynasty. Tampa Bay has a shot at winning the cup for the third year in a row. We haven’t seen a threepeat since the Islanders in the early 80’s.

So do I root for the Avs or the threepeat? I couldn’t decide.

Until…

I checked the score a few times tonight. The first time it was Avs in the lead 2-1. Later it was Avs up 3-1. Then about 10 minutes ago I checked and it was tied at three in the third. I immediately put the Lightning radio broadcast up on the NHL app on my iPad.

I guess I’m rooting for a new dynasty then. As soon as Tampa woke up I was invested in the game.
