Just prepping myself for tomorrow by looking at some film photos from last year.

It’s Really Cold Out
Another freezing cold day here in Massachusetts. New England is in a deep freeze right now. At this moment I am sitting at my desk in the cellar with a heavy sweatshirt on, a space heater running, and an electric blanket draped over me.
Yeah, it’s cold.
I just want the air to be warm enough to let us go outside without it being painful. Is that too much to ask?
Show Me a Sick Guy
How about a selfie on film of some random guy who seems to have caught a cold or something.
First Day of Winter
Well… it’s winter again. Again. Literally winter, as opposed to the last three plus months which was figuratively winter. Literal winter runs from December to March. Here in New England, figurative winter runs from September 1st through sometime in late June. The upside of the first day of winter is that from now on the days start getting longer. The downside is that it’s going to get colder and more awful with each passing day, and it’s going to take so long for the days to get longer enough that it matters that it won’t make any real difference for months.
I hate winter.
December 21st puts us in the home stretch for xmas. I am still waiting for the amazonians to deliver a couple of things so the wrapping is still not complete. I have to go out and pick up a few things today as well. That includes some food supplies for xmas eve, xmas dinner, and our slightly delayed annual xmas eve party which happens on the Sunday after xmas this year. I also need to bring my work-holiday gift to my sister’s today so we can have it with xmas dinner.
I need to play guitar but there probably won’t be time for it. I need to go out and take pictures of stuff but the weather likely won’t let me. Ugh.
Lots to do, but I can’t do anything until I clean the tiny amount of snow we got yesterday off of the cars and the driveway. Ugh.
I hate winter. Remember that time a few years ago when we went to Florida in January and the weather was warm? Can we maybe do that again?
I Hate Winter
Winter officially begins over night tonight. It snowed today and there is a little snow on the ground.
I hate winter. I just hate it. I want nice weather and sunshine and water and fun back, right now.
Magic Bands
My wife ordered our Magic Bands for our January trip. If you know, you know. Is the meal plan next?
Let’s Go Back
A little over a month away from our next trip South. Let’s just say screw it and go now.
Not Ready Yet
I have three rolls of 35mm film that are ready to be developed. I don’t want to ship them out yet though. I have that new/ancient medium format camera now and I want to wait until I finish a test roll so that I can be sure it works okay. I just want to bundle all of this film into one order with the developing lab, you know? One order, one shipment. I just have to take the new camera out somewhere and use it. I only get 12 shots in a roll. I should be able to get that done quickly, right?
Oh the film shooting drama.
Dad’s Camera
I took this with Dad’s camera last summer. Or was it the summer before last. I don’t remember. It was at Nubble Lighthouse in Maine.
I took Dad’s camera to New York this past weekend and with the exception of a couple of pics with my iPhone it was the only camera I used. It’ll probably be years before I get the film developed though, so you’re just going to have to be patient. You and me both.
Camera for a Day
One day in Manhattan. Maybe better described as most of one day in Manhattan.
That’s the plan. Drive to someplace in Connecticut that has rail access to NYC. Stay overnight. Take a train into the city tomorrow morning, early. Stay for most of the day. Sometime in the late afternoon or early evening, take a train back to where we started and then drive home.
That leaves two questions. First, what do we do while we’re there. Second, which cameras do I bring?
To answer the first question, we’ll probably just go where the xmas decorations take us. This trip is an attempt at forcing some holiday spirit onto our grinchy, scroogy selves. To answer the second question… I am not sold on anything yet except that I will not be bringing my new medium format camera. I need to run a roll through it to make sure it works before I bring it anywhere of consequence. I just have to get off my ass and do it. So it’s down to the digital Nikon Z5, and the 35mm Pentax K1000, and Nikon FG-20. Both of the film cameras have partially shot rolls. The K1000 is down to the last handful of shits on a roll of Kentmere 400, which is Black and White, and the FG-20 has most of a roll of Kodak ColorPlus 200.
I think I want to bring the K1000 (my father’s camera) and a couple of rolls of color film. I have a handful of ColorPlus that I could bring. I would only bring one or two. I don’t want to spend all of my time fudging with film. At least… assuming I bring the digital camera too. My thought though… do I want to even bring the digital camera? I mean, I do. I want to bring it literally everywhere I go. On this occasion though? There’s a little part of me that is considering going film-only this time.
I don’t know… I am thinking about it.
