The Polls are Closed

It is after 8:00pm here in Massachusetts. 8:08pm to be exact.

That means the polls are closed. The voting in this year’s federal election has come to an end for my state.

I forget what year it was… 1992? 1996? I worked at the polls that year. My parents worked at the polls almost every year. My father, the super accountant, ran the ballot counting in our district. My mother was a ballot counter. For that one election, whichever year it was, my sister and I worked as ballot counters too. I was proud to do it. Hell, I was honored to do it.

I’m thinking about the folks doing those jobs now and I am feeling for them in a major way. I’ve heard of bomb threats and intimidation tactics in some battleground states. Because that’s what happens when you put a convicted felon and his nazi cult at the head of one of your two political parties. Stay safe out there, poll workers. Thank you for all of your hard work. Count those votes, and may the best woman win.

Flags

It is election day today. Here’s hoping we do away with the fascist prick once and for all. I am seriously looking forward to never having to see or hear him ever again. Cross your fingers, non-cult members. Today could be the day that we start being able to ignore that mother fucker.

I want to hang our flag today. I haven’t put it up since Biden’s inauguration day. Today seems like a good day to bring it back, but the forecast this morning calls for rain and flag etiquette dictates that you do not fly the US flag in the rain. The weather looks okay this afternoon. Maybe I’ll put it up after lunch. We’ll see.

Today could be the first day of a fascism free America. Do the right thing, people. Get out and vote for Kamala Harris. It’s the right thing to do*.

*It took every ounce of my being to not turn that into a Wilford Brimley quote from those old commercials and actually write “It’s the right thing to do and a tasty way to do it.” Were those oatmeal commercials? I can remember the slogan, but not the product and somehow that pleases me to no end.

Election Fears Continued

I want to say that there is no way the fascist piece of orange shit could ever win the election tomorrow because a vote for him is effectively an act of violence against women. The women of the United States will never let that stand, and they will vote for Harris en masse which will lead to a landslide victory and an epic, historic humiliation for that nazi fuck. No woman in her right mind would ever vote for this sexist, abusive, abuser slime, right?

Then I remember that I said exactly the same thing in 2016 and the scum bag won.

I am absolutely terrified for the future of my country right now. I can’t even put the existential dread into words. Please don’t vote for that nazi fucker. Harris/Walz 2024. Please. Do the right thing.

Election Paranoia

So tomorrow is election day in the USofA. We’ve been talking about it and stressing about it and being completely messed up about it for about two years now.

I’ve already voted. It doesn’t matter. I am totally paranoid about tomorrow. So much so that I think I am afraid to leave the house. I should work from the office, but I seriously do not want to go outside at all.

The last time the nazi running as a republican lost an election he tried to overthrow the government. Vice President Harris could win in an unprecedented landslide and that nazi fuck is still not going to accept defeat, and he will mobilize his cult again, and maybe they’ll pull it off this time.

Even worse, our country is so fucked up that there is an actual decent chance that the convicted felon could actually win. What the fuck is wrong with us?

Yeah… I am not leaving the house tomorrow… I don’t want to try my luck.

Vote

We are less than a month away from the 2024 Presidential Election where We The People will once again show that fascist piece of shit that we don’t want him around anymore.

I had two questions come to mind that always come to mind just before a big election. One, what is the status of my voter registration. Two, when does the early voting period start.

Massachusetts has handy online tools to answer both questions. First, how’s my registration looking? I went here and found that I am active and all is well, as it should be.

Next, I went here and found the following early voting information:

Early Voting Periods

In-person early voting takes place during a designated early voting period, set by state law.

For statewide elections, early voting periods include guaranteed weekend voting hours for every community.

November Election Early Voting Period: October 19 – November 1

Okay, that sounds good. Now that I knew the dates involved I went to my city’s website to get specifics and found this:

There you have it. If you, like me, live in Methuen, MA… you’re welcome.

Too Good Not to Share

I saw this on Threads today and I think it is too good not to share. It’s very fitting.

This is the post where I first saw it, but there is a comment stating that the person who posted it did not create it… so I don’t know who to give credit for it. Sorry.

January Plans

Back in January 2009 when Barak Obama was inaugurated I felt like I should have been there to celebrate with him and thousands of my closest friends. In January 2021 when Joe Biden was inaugurated I felt like I should be there cheering on the fact that the orange shit clown lost and the USA was saved for at least a few years.

I didn’t go on either occasion. I honestly didn’t try, even though I really would have liked to have been there.

In January 2025 WHEN Kamala Harris is inaugurated I am really going to want to be there to celebrate with her and thousands of my closest friends.

We already have a trip planned for that month. Our trip does not include January 20th though. It’s a week later. Washington, DC is far enough away that I couldn’t go there for the day and then go home that same day. I would have to go down on Sunday, attend the inauguration on Monday, and then drive home on Tuesday. Two vacation days in the week before I go on vacation for a week… that would be a tough sell. WHEN she wins the election… I might look into the possibility of it though. Even if I have to sleep in the car because I probably won’t be able to get a hotel room in the city.

We’ll see, my friends… we’ll see.

One Tiny Political Thought

I just felt the need to jot down this one little thought on the 2024 Presidential election so that someday in the future I might find it here and remember what I was feeling at this particular moment in history.

Eight years ago I was definitely ready for the United States to have a woman President.

Today, I am even more ready for the United States to have a woman President.

Like I said, just writing that down and sending it off to the universe just so that it’s around for future reference.

Thanks for indulging me.

Is Liz Warren Busy Right Now?

Shit.

Seriously… shit.

President Biden has apparently announced that he’s dropping out of the election.

We the people are completely fucked.

Are we going to get another primary? Are we going to just ignore the primary system and go back to the old system of just having state delegates pick the candidate at the convention? The convention starts on August 19th. Can we swing a new primary by then? What is my Senator, Elizabeth Warren up to right now? She got a presidential primary vote from me once before, can she get another one now?

I’ll happily vote for Vice President Harris if that’s how this works out, but I think this move more or less guarantees a win for the orange nazi goo boy and fascism, and it probably signals a quick and painful end to this American experiment thing.

American democracy had a good run, I guess.

Fuck
Fuck
Fuck
Fuck
Fuck

Vote

Tonight at just after 7:00pm I cast ballot number 345 in Methuen, MA precinct five. It was just under an hour before the polls close. It’s 8:00pm as I type this so I can now say past tense, the polls closed.

There were no races of consequence, really. One local race was unopposed, another had about 15 candidates for 35 seats. Another was President Biden running against a few people I’ve never heard of who have zero chance of winning. There was one two candidate race. Maybe my vote will have meaning in that one.

That’s okay. I feel like a hypocrite when I miss an election. Even when there are no races that require a large turn out. We’ll have one of those in November this year. Vote against the fascists. Vote against the maga cult. Vote against trump. Vote for Biden. Vote Democrat. Let’s have a blue wave. We have eight months to organize. Let’s do it.
