Project Apollo Archive on Flickr

I never post pictures from other people’s Flickr accounts, but today I am making an exception. There is a new account called Project Apollo Archive that is essentially a dump of unedited pictures taken by the NASA Apollo missions to the moon. All of the astronauts had cameras built into their suits so they could snap away as much as they’d like. All of the pictures are unedited scans of the original film.

I believe the word you’re looking for is WOW!

Here are just a few shots from one roll of film taken during the Apollo 12 mission.

Thoughts

I just stepped outside to go pick up take out dinner for my mother. It was about 6:50pm, it was dark, it was drizzling, and it was 48 degrees.

Screw you, Fall. I want my summer back.

I haven’t been home yet tonight so I don’t know if the abandoned cat has made an appearance or not. I hope so. I put food out yesterday, but it didn’t look like any had been eaten. I did see a squirrel stalking the front walk way once but it stayed away.

Another Cat Update

The cat lives!  I went out for a minute and drove past the box.  The cat was there!  It survived the night.  I pulled over and it didn’t run away.  I got out of the car and took a few steps and then it ran away.  At least I know it’s still there.

When I came home she was in the neighbor’s yard.  I walked up, she ran a short way away.  I walked closer, she went a few more strides away.  Then again, then again, then she was in the woods and I couldn’t see her anymore.

Hopefully the bobcats and the Hawks and the owl and the foxes and all the other predators will leave our little cat friend alone.

One additional note, when I went out to the car I saw the cat at the foot of the back steps.  At least I thought it was the cat.  Nope.  It was a skunk.  It didn’t see me.  I think it heard me and it went under the car.  I saw that, and then I heard it walking though the leaves on the other side of the car.  I knew it was gone.  I knew it.  But I still waited a few minutes before I went out to the car.

Cat Update

No news on the abandoned cat. Still missing in action.

When I got home two of my neighbors were scoping out the scene. I told them what seems to have happened and they were both just as upset as Jen and I were last night. Two more neighbors joined us so the word is spreading. There will be a lot of people in the neighborhood keeping an eye out for a little lost cat.

The food we left out still hasn’t been touched. One of the neighbors was walking her dog when we were talking and the dog partook of a few sips of water. Other than that, nothing.

Cat Update

Last night just before bed Jen and I went outside to see if the abandoned cat was around.  As soon as we opened the door we saw it standing at the end of our front walkway.  When we stepped outside it ran away.

A few minutes ago I walked over to the box where we left some food and water.  It doesn’t look like it was touched, by the cat or any of the thousand other small critters who live in the woods.

If we can catch it we will bring it to the MSPCA down the street.  If it’s okay the question will be do we try again to integrate a second cat into the house?

Some Asshole Left This

When I came home tonight I saw a cat near the trees in between our house and the house next door. There was also a box with a cover. Like the kind of box printer paper comes in. Jen came home a couple of minutes later and she noticed the same thing. We walked over to see if we could find the cat because the box was giving us both a really bad feeling. We walked slow, calling for the cat. It never came out of the trees. We lost sight of it pretty quickly. What we did see was that the box cover had holes cut into the top and there was a towel lining the bottom. I think our bad feeling was confirmed.

Someone abandoned the cat. They put it in the box and dropped it on our street. Some mutt. Some scumbag piece of dirt. Some pile of filth abandoned this cat on our street when we are literally walking distance from a huge animal shelter.

Now what do we do? Call the MSPCA? They always say don’t leave food out for strays, but I think it’s warranted in this case. We left a little food and a little water. When we came back in after delivering, the cat was sitting by our front steps. When we approached she slinked away. Poor little kitty.
