I didn’t drive the Nissan today so I didn’t have the dashboard chronometer to tell me exactly how long my commute lasted. I left the gas station near the house at about 7:48 (on a normal day that would be insanely late) and I got into a parking spot at 8:23. That’s 35 minutes (approximately) and that is a new record! The previous record was something like 38 or 39 minutes and it was set on Christmas Eve while I was still living in Tewksbury (which is closer to work than where I live now).
This calls for celebration! Tomorrow we will throw a huge feast in honor of this achievement! We will roast a turkey and have stuffing and mashed potatoes and pies and cranberry sauce and other weird vegetables that I don’t really like. We shall call this feast “Thanksgiving” and celebrate it annually in remembrance of this wonderful morning commute!(*)
*or something like that
Hello, my name is Robert and I’m addicted to binge watching television shows on Netflix.
I needed a new comedy to watch and I ended up at 30 Rock. Seven whole seasons. I’ve already blown my way through season one. At this rate I should be through the whole thing by Sunday.
Hey, did you know that you can get Firefox for iOS? I’m using it right now. Browser options for the win!
I over slept this morning. After the five nights in the hospital last week it has been pretty difficult for Jen and me to get back into a normal sleep cycle. We basically crashed once we got home and slept as much as we could for the first few days. Now it’s the opposite. We can’t get as much sleep as we want. Hopefully the coming long weekend will help us regulate things.
The result though is that Robbie over slept. I didn’t get out of the house until 7:45, what with the additional tasks of putting out the trash and the recycling and making lunch and yadda yadda blah. I was convinced I was going to be at least 30 minutes late to work.
Then the tease happened.
Most days when I turn on Waze before leaving the house it tells me I will get to work in plenty of time, and that my route will be the most straightforward route there is. Then it starts rerouting me off of the highway, and my estimated arrival time starts getting later and later.
Today it was the opposite. It gave my estimated arrival time as just before 9:00, which made me think maybe 9:15 or 9:20. Then as I was driving it was telling me my next turn would be to get off the highway. As I approached my exit though it would recalculate and tell me to stay on the highway. What? That never happened before. Then I noticed the estimated arrival time was actually getting earlier, not later. Weird. I pulled into a parking spot at 8:37. It only took 52 minutes! What a thrill that was! What a victory! Win! Win! Win!
Thanksgiving is two days away. Clearly much of Eastern Massachusetts is starting their long weekend early. I’ll take it! Tomorrow is the traditional “worst traffic day of the year” but that usually only messes me up in the evening commute. The day before Thanksgiving is usually a really short drive in the morning. Given that we’re now North of the Mass Pike, it could be my fastest commute to work ever!
Now watch me get stuck behind an accident tomorrow. Yay.
In other news, the Bruins won again! Sure they played like crap through most of the game, but they’ve won three in a row! Win! Win! Win!
In other, other news, did you listen to the tape of Sunday’s band practice? Didn’t the guitar sound just filthy? I still have to go back and cut together all of the Family Guy impressions we were doing between songs. Kevin and Greg can both do an excellent Peter Griffin.
I used my new overdrive pedal through my Marshall amp for the first time tonight. I also used my new USB audio interface and managed to record the whole band practice.
My guitar sound has balls again! Oh happiness! Oh Thrill of Thrills! Wonder of Wonder my Les Paul doesn’t sound wimpy! It’s a miracle!
My step son has had low blood sugar twice since coming home from the hospital. He said his symptoms were hunger, sweats, shakes. Just like the doctors and nurses said. The first time was in school after gym class. He ate a fruit roll up and felt better. He did not, however, take his blood sugar or go to the nurse. He knows that the next time it happens we need to get a blood sugar number so that we can narrow down at what point his lows begin.
The second time was this morning at Dad’s house. He was feeling a little shaky before breakfast. He took his blood sugar and then ate. It was 72. So, we now know his lows start somewhere around 72. That is good knowledge. If nothing else we should do our best to keep him above 80 so he doesn’t have to go through such an unpleasant experience again.
Knowledge is Power.
Beware! Gear Acquisition Syndrome is a very real and very dangerous thing! If you are not careful you too will end up with a house full of stomp boxes! Teach your kids to be safe and grow up to play blues or jazz or any other style of music where you are encouraged to just plug straight into your amp!
The language is definitely not safe for work, but the laughs… oh my goodness. The funniest puppet scenes in cable television history.
