Report: Boston’s Fenway Park to host 2010 Winter Classic game

According to the Boston Herald the NHL has chosen Fenway Park, as the host of the 2010 NHL Winter Classic.

The report states Boston was chosen over New York and Philadelphia to host next season’s ode to alfresco hockey and the opposing team is likely to be either the Rangers or the Montreal Canadiens, though nothing has been officially decided.

NHL officials had looked at playing the game in Fenway Park, home of Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox, or Gillette Stadium, home of the National Football League’s New England Patriots. However, fears over the NFL playoff schedule conflicting with the NHL’s preferred January 1 date led the league to choose the historic baseball park over the larger capacity offered by Gillette.

The 2009 Winter Classic was played in front of 41,000 fans at Wrigley Field in Chicago as the Blackhawks were defeated by the Detroit Red Wings 6-4. The 2008 game featured the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins in front of 71,217 at Ralph Wilson Stadium in upper New York. The Pens took that tilt in a shootout 2-1 on Sidney Crosby’s winner.

So why didn’t the seller respond to our 4:00pm deadline yesterday?

Because they hadn’t seen the offer we made to them on Tuesday morning, that’s why.

At the open house one of the sellers told us that some one in his family, son-in-law I think, was handling the sale for them. According to our broker he works for a real agency. Unfortunately he doesn’t seem to have a clue what he’s doing. The sellers did not see our Tuesday offer until our broker faxed it directly to them on Thursday morning. The sellers had no idea how down payments are calculated. They actually thought that we would make a $5,000 down payment and then walk away. They figured we’d need a bigger down payment to show we were serious. Huh? Five grand looks pretty serious to me.

So now they have our two day old offer in their hands. They are supposed to be meeting this afternoon, something else that fills us with tons of confidence, and if they don’t accept it by 5:00 we’re through with them. The house has been on the market for 229 days and they actually told our broker they want to see if other offers come in.

They asked for X.
We offered them X.

What’s the problem folks?

Now if this is how bad they operate during step one of the process, how screwed up are they going to be in all of the other steps? Is this going to drag on so long that it gets in the way of the wedding?

The answer is no. We aren’t going to let it. The wedding is the top of our list. They can suck on their house if they think otherwise.

5:00pm today it either happens or we move on.

We bought an HDTV a few months ago. Tonight we are at home watching our first Hi-Def Red Sox game. It looks awesome. Sadly the Red Sox are trailing Tampa Bay by a painful 5 to 1 score. It’s game 2 out of 162 and I am on the Tobin bridge ready to jump off.

The housing drama continues. We told our agent that our offer expired at 4:00pm today. 4:00 came and went and we heard nothing. Jen then spoke to the agent afterwards and he basically gave us the “what are you nuts?” treatment. He managed to speak to one of the sellers and the delay seems to be that they don’t have a clue what they’re doing. So they asked us to extend the offer through 5:00pm tomorrow. Okay, we can do that… but no more.

There is one stretch of my drive home that tends to be delayed quite a bit. So, I took a bunch of pictures using the iPhone camerabag app. I didn’t keep track of which function I used where, I just flipped around and saved the ones that looked nice. Enjoy!

She still has an offer on the table.

We fell off the weight watchers wagon for a few weeks there. We went out to dinner a number of times, and had not one but two big corned beef dinners thrown in for good measure. Last night Jen and I both weighed in and were both down. I was down two pounds for a total of ten. We were both really surprised.

The Red Sox won their season opener and all was right with the world… at least until they lose a game, which hopefully won’t happen for a while. I am not vindictive or anything, but I really want them to run the table against Tampa Bay, and I would really like to see the (Devil) Rays back in the American League East basement where they belong.

The Bruins lost. It was a meaningless game for both teams. Big deal. Just don’t make a habit out of the lazy play we saw last night.

My fantasy hockey team leads 6-4 with five days left to go. Sydney Crosby, Chris Drury, and Cam former-Lowell-Lockmonster Ward all came up huge for me. Thanks guys!

I have a free-nerd~o~ramma-fest yahoo fantasy baseball team too. Two days into the season and I’m getting smoked in matchup #1. My team looks to kinda suck. I’m guessing that by the all-star break I will forget that it even exists.

Offer expires at noon… still waiting. They don’t realize that it’s our final offer. By noon today Jen and I will either be very excited, or we will have happily moved on. I’ll let ya’ll know.

Twins?

So the Bruins clinched the East the other day. Home ice advantage for up to three playoff rounds is guaranteed. It’s nice, but the last time they had that Montreal bounced them in the first round. I am excited about the playoffs, but cautiously so.

Looks like The Man aka Tim Thomas got himself a nice juicy new contract. Congrats, it is definitely well deserved. The Bruins wouldn’t be where they are today without The Man in their net.

I misread the fantasy hockey league schedule over at the free yahoo games. I made it into the finals and after seven days had a 5-4 lead. I thought I won, until I realized the last weel’s game actually lasts two weeks. So one day into the second week of this matchup, I still lead 5-4. I need Sydney Crosby to score 12 goals tonight.

Today is opening day part deux for the Boston Red Sox. Yesterday the opener was rained out. We’re hoping for better luck today and so far it looks good. We’re also hoping for a less disappointing end to this season. They look good on paper, but maybe not as good as the last couple of years. I hope in the long term we don’t end up missing Manny, and I hope that Big Papi, Jason Bay, JD Drew, Mike Lowell, Youk, and Dustin Pedroia, can make us forget about the fruit loop who used to play in left field. I am also confident that Jason Veritek will have a decent year. Much better than last year, but just being an average joe would be a big improvement. I think he can do it.

Hmmmm… what else. What else is going on in the world today.

Oh yeah, we rejected the latest counter offer and sent another one back.

So the RPM posting at alonetone is a hit! (and by hit I mean people who aren’t me actually listened to it… or at least clicked on a few individual tracks.) I’ve had 50+ hits and less than half of those were from me. The posting at virb, well… not so much. I think all of the hits there were from me. Same thing with myspace. Now I don’t do anything to promote myself on any of these three sites. Alonetone places newly uploaded playlists on the front page, so that’s probably where the few hits I’ve had came from. Also, I joined up at about the same time as a number of other RPM contestants, which might mean they recognize me. I don’t care. I’m just glad it’s out there.

I tried another couple of pano images yesterday while visiting my parents. The first one is three shots stitched together. The second one is five. I think what we learned from this is to keep the number of individual shots under five. The resolution is terrible on that one. As always, click on them to see the full size.

What else is going on then. hmmmm… 53 days left until the wedding. We got another RSVP last night. That’s great. We have about a third of them now. Keep ’em comin’ folks. We got invited to a summer wedding in Miami, FL. That could be a lot of fun except we might not be able to afford it. You see we put in an offer on a house. Nothing major there, just an offer on a house.

My 2009 RPM Challenge recording, only 37 days late. The mix sounds almost okay with headphones on, but I listened in the car on the way to work and the bass and occasionally the vocals were too low. Also, everything is too trebley. I don’t care. It’s done.

I am posting it at alonetone first. Virb and Myspace will come later. Why? Who knows. I like uploading stuff that no one will ever listen to. WOOHOO!

That’s the big news today. Oh yeah, that and Jen and I might have bought a house today. That’s not so big though.
