Google’s trying to get social again and they are using Gmail to get there. Not sure what I think about this. I generally like the idea that my email is separate from my social (twitter, facebook, flickr, and a dusty old myspace) accounts.

Challenger
Last night while eating dinner Jen and I were talking about the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. We were each telling the details and rumors that we could remember from way back in 1986. When we got home we watched some old news footage on youtube and Jen found a NASA history site that had tons of details.
It was a pretty depressing topic to read up on so I tried to brighten things up by unloading all of Sunday’s birthday party pictures off of my camera and uploading them to facebook and flickr.
Much better.
Olympic Hockey Links
We’re still eight days away from the start of the tournament, but I wanted to stash a couple of Hockey News links to information on Olympic Hockey.
This link shows the roster for each nation’s team.
This link gives the tournament schedule.
It all starts Tuesday, Feb 16 at 3:00pm Eastern Time with a match up between Switzerland and The United States.
I am going to burn a hole in our DVR.
The Who at the Super Bowl
I haven’t watched this yet. I’m just saving it for later.
The Who at the Super Bowl Halftime show:
Part 1/2
They Won!
The Bruins won a game! The Bruins won a game! Thank god almighty the Bruins won a game!
You didn’t think I was talking about some other game, did you? We celebrated Super Bowl Sunday by watching Dazed and Confused on demand. (“Behind every good man there is a woman, and that woman was Martha Washington, man, and everyday George would come home, she would have a big fat bowl waiting for him, man, when he come in the door, man, she was a hip, hip, hip lady, man.”)
I can give you one definitive reason why the Bruins were successful in ending their horrible 10 game losing streak yesterday afternoon in Montreal. I wasn’t watching the game. There you have it. That is the exact reason for the Bruins success. I wasn’t paying attention.
Yesterday we got up pretty early and I headed out to do some errands. We had my step son’s birthday party to attend in the afternoon (the pictures are coming as soon as I get a chance to unload the camera) and we needed wrapping paper for his presents. I also had a couple of other reasons to head out while Jen did some work at home. It was Jen’s birthday after all.
I got the wrapping paper, then got a birthday cake for my bride. Two of the three things I wanted, checked off the list in record time. Then I wanted to get her some flowers. I went to my trusty iPhone and my (formerly) trusty Yelp! application and searched for flower shops. There were a bunch nearby so I pointed my GPS at the closest one and headed there.
When I arrived at the given address there was no flower shop. I was a bit put off, but it was still early so I picked the next closest one Yelp! had to offer. I went to that address and once again, no flower shop. I eventually got some, but I was pretty disturbed by the lack of usefulness of a normally useful application.
Anyway, the birthday party was a blast. Lots of people came. I got to catch up with many friends as well as see a bunch of kids going crazy in an indoor playground. After that the birthday wifey and I went out to dinner. She had seen a show on the history of BBQ restaurants earlier and decided she wanted some of that tasty goodness. We ended up at Smokey Bones in Nashua. It was pretty good. We both liked it. After that we drove home and had some birthday cake while ignoring the football game.
This morning I did the thing I had planned to do every day last week but didn’t do. I got up at 5:00am and spent an hour in the cellar working on music. I now have three songs in the works. That equals my worst, past RPM showing. At least I made it that far, right? I think I am still a song or two behind last year’s pace though. I will do more tomorrow morning.
So the Bruins have three more games before the Olympic break. Yesterday’s win magically moved them into a tie for the last playoff position in the East (they lose the tie breaker to Philadelphia though) which tells you just how pathetic the bottom half of the conference is. I would like to hope that yesterday marks the turning of the futility corner, and will kick off a nice happy win streak. Unfortunately I am a realist.
Now all that’s left for me to do is to find a video of The Who’s halftime show… although I’m hearing it was pretty bad. Maybe I’ll continue to give that a miss.
Until next time.
Happy Birthday Jenny!
Might As Well
It is February after all… It only comes once a year after all… And I did take a couple of vacation days mid-month with the specific intention of working on it…
So I just might as well go through with the whole RPM Challenge after all.
Two song are well under way. Riffs and changes worked out, drum machine and a scratch guitar part down on tape.
The RPM craziness is six days late, but officially underway.
Sniffly Morning
Weird… all four of us woke up today with a case of the sniffles. We’re all coughing and most of us are sneezing. Might it have been something in the birthday cake we got for the seven year old little man yesterday? I hope not, cause the cake was goood.
The Bruins lost to the Canadiens last night. Any loss to Montreal is a cause for fury and screaming and throwing things at strangers whose only crime is wearing blue white and red (as opposed to red white and blue… there is a HUGE difference). Last night, however, was the Bruins ninth (9th) consecutive loss. The longest losing streak the franchise has suffered since the 1920’s. Yip-fricken-pee.
They were winning two to nothing when I sat down at the tube. I thought of actually saying out loud, “I’m here watching, you guys can collapse now.” I didn’t say it. I didn’t want to jinx anything. Of course within the next three minutes of game play the Canadiens had scored twice to tie the game. Eventually they won in a shoot out. Frick-on-a-stick, as the saying goes.
The weekend plans are starting to form. On Saturday Jen is going to pretty much have to work all day. My job will then be to take care of all that needs to be taken care of while she works. That includes getting the van’s tail light fixed, getting an oil change, getting an inspection sticker, getting some b-day gifts for a certain b-day boy and a certain b-day wife*, doing laundry, and doing anything else that comes up over the course of the day. I would also like to try and hide in the cellar and maybe start this year’s RPM Challenge… six days late. (obviously still nothing on that front)
Sunday there are a few things going on. We have a huge birthday party for a certain young man to attend. Expect a gazillion pictures of kids out of their minds on sugar. After that we may be watching the kids for a bit while their dad and soon-to-be step mom go car shopping. After that I want to take a certain birthday wifey* out to dinner because I love her like CRAZY and it’s her birthday. She’s 21 years old this year and we need to celebrate in style. There is also a football game I think but I wouldn’t care in the least if we miss that. Maybe if we wait until game time to go out to eat we won’t have any waits to worry about. Good idea!
*When I say birthday wifey I am referring to this beautiful woman whom I love, adore, and can’t get enough of. Obviously I am talking about the love of my life, Jen:
