Allergies? Cold?

I am really stuffy all of a sudden. I mean it, like five minutes ago I felt fine but right now I am feeling like I have a cold.

Is it allergies? I am relatively knew to allergies. I only occasionally show symptoms, and they are never terribly bad. That means I don’t really know when the allergy season starts, and I don’t really know which times of year correspond to which symptoms and all of that.

Maybe I’m just catching a cold. I didn’t sleep much last night, I probably weakened my immune system just enough to win the viral lottery. Crud.

The Bruins were dropped to eighth last night by Philadelphia’s win, but thankfully everyone behind them lost. We still have a three point cushion with three games left to play.

The Red Sox however… so much for the huge defensive improvements.

Steve Howe on Youtube

I just watched a bunch of these. Steve Howe is posting quick little videos of him playing some highlights from his catalog. There are two cameras, one on each hand. It’s mind boggling watching this guy calmly and easily blowing through some of the most difficult music in recorded history.

Here’s an example.

If you play guitar you are probably just as speechless as I am right now.

There is a law that states any time I drive on the New Jersey Turnpike I have to listen to Yes performing Simon & Garfunkel’s “America”. It’s not up to me. It’s actually a Federal Law.

(I went back to myflashfetish for the mp3 player… I hope it works.)

Scheming

First of all, let us hope that this is the last example of one of these pictures:

That is Route 20 in Wayland and as you can see it is still closed. Based on the gigantic puddle right behind those barrels I would say the closure is rather justified.

The forecast is calling for a chance of isolated thunderstorms today and tonight. Hopefully they will isolate themselves from any flooded areas. Even better, hopefully they won’t happen at all. I am sick of floods.

Now, on to bigger and better things. Are you good at keeping secrets? I’m not. Not really. I may have to do it for a while though. I may have to keep a secret from two people I live with. I don’t know how I am going to do it, but I will manage. I know I will. I will probably blab it here at some point, but not until the details are worked out. There is some serious scheming and plotting that has to happen before I start flapping my gums (figuratively, of course) online.

I will say, in all honesty, that the scheming has nothing to do with this:
May 31, 2008 - Chef Mickey's and the Space Shuttle Launch

No. Seriously, it has nothing to do with that. I am not kidding, I am not being misleading. It honestly has nothing to do with that picture.

Subject change: Click on Rush.com.

Did you click on it? I wonder what that clock might be counting down to? Tour dates perhaps? (fingers crossed, red head vibes, the works!)

Subject change: The Bruins lost to Washington last night, but they made it to overtime which earned them a loser point. Here are the standings as posted by NHL.com:

The good news is that neither New York nor Atlanta can pass us tonight. The bad news is, they are still not out of the woods and there are only three games left. Tonight Atlanta plays New Jersey and the Rangers play Buffalo. They should both be beaten tonight. Philadelphia plays Toronto, and Montreal plays the New York Islanders. They should both win their game. That would put the Bruins in 8th. Oh, the drama. Oh, the drama.

On a happier note, the Red Sox and Yankees go at it again tonight at 7:00. Game two. Let’s hope Lester puts New York in it’s place.

Go Bruins
Go Red Sox
Go Devils, Sabers, Maple Leafs, and Islanders.

Call Me Paranoid

Jen and I went to my parent’s house on Saturday. We were only there for a short time, but we got to enjoy a surprise visit by my sister and my nephew. He was his normal, incredibly adorable little self. We tried to get him to talk but he doesn’t seem to like to do it on queue. He’s about 20 months old and he is absolutely his own man.

Sunday morning my sister called me to tell me that the Easter Bunny brought my nephew some yummy goodness. He also got another Easter surprise: Conjunctivitis! WOOHOO Some holiday Pink Eye for my little man.

Oh yeah… and just before receiving his diagnosis Jen and I were both playing with him.

This is where the paranoia kicks in.

Since the moment my sister used the “c” word my eyes have felt itchy and watery. There’s nothing wrong with them, it’s just that I am a paranoid sad sack sometimes and when I know I was exposed to something I immediately start feeling the symptoms.

Some one has a cold? Boy my nose is stuffy.

Some one has pink eye? Boy my eyes are itchy, and I am really hungry for human brians. (the dead rising from the grave, and Tiny Yothers coming to town? Thank you, South Park)

Some one has a broken toe? Boy my foot sure hurts.

Kinda like that.

Easter Success

Yeah, we did it. We hosted Easter for my parents and Jen’s parents and we got through the day without burning anything down or blowing anything up. I call that a success.

We have one little issue that comes up whenever we have anyone over for dinner. We make waay too much food. There were eight of us yesterday and we could have fed 20. I’m not complaining. We’re going to get to have excellent ham dinners for the next week at least. Everything was excellent and it will continue to be as left overs for the next 5-10 days or so. But, damn there was a lot of food! Better to have too much then not enough, right? So maybe it’s not an issue at all.

Jen’s folks brought two iPads with them. Woah. Jealous! They bought them on iPad day Saturday. Jen and I both want one. But… we’re going to hold off for a while. We won’t buy just one, we’ll get one for each of us, and I am still thinking it would be better to wait for a revision or two before we start shelling out the money. Also, the price could always come down. That would be a good thing too.

Sports news: The Bruins are in seventh place by virtue of a tie breaker. Boston and Philadelphia are tied with 84 points. The Rangers are in ninth with 82 and Atlanta is in 10th with 81. Two of those four teams will make the playoffs. Two won’t. (that’s assuming Montreal, in sixth with 86 points doesn’t have a monumental collapse in the next few days)

In the AHL, the Lowell Devils are in the fourth and final Atlantic Division playoff spot with a two point lead over Bridgeport and three games to go. My step son asked me when we were going to get to go to another Devils game. Maybe if they make the playoffs we’ll go to another game. They’ve never made the playoffs before, so that might be worthy of a little celebration.

The 2010 Major League Baseball season is now officially underway. Finally, the quest to erase the taste of last year’s first round playoff sweep at the hands of the Angels is on, and the Red Sox kick it off in style with a come back win against the Yankees. When we went to bed last night the Sox were down 4-1. I thought I was going to write about how our perfect Easter Sunday was soiled by the f@$#%&g Yankees. Nope, the good guys saved the day. One game down, 161 to go… and we’re in 1st place! WOOHOO

One more important thing to mention this morning, and it’s far and away the most important of all.

Three years ago today I did something smart. I don’t often do smart things, so this was a bit of an abnormality on my part. Three years ago today, Jen and I went on our first date. Magically, I didn’t do anything to spoil it or ruin things for her. Incredibly, she wanted to see me again. From that day on, all things worked out correctly and now we are quickly approaching our first wedding anniversary.

I love you Jen. Thank you for an amazing three years. So far, so good.
