You thought I forgot about you, didn’t you. No, just needed to wait until lunch time to get my post in.

As a wise man (Douglas Adams) once wrote, “Time is an illusion. Lunch time doubly so.”

Here are pictures from the second day in New York. The first day I had a charged battery in my Nikon! Hooray!

We thought it would be fun to take the Staten Island Ferry into the city. It was fun. Getting to the Ferry was a major challenge. Bridges and Toll Booths and Traffic, oh my!

There is a very nice 9/11 memorial along the water near the terminal.

I did not know this until we got there, but the complex is the home of the Staten Island Yankees. The New York/Penn league rivals of our local minor league heroes the Lowell Spinners. There was a game that night. I don’t know if they were playing Lowell or not. I hate the Yankees.

It was a beautiful day and the view during the crossing was wonderful.

The highlight of the ferry trip was, obviously, the Statue of Liberty.

My stepson wanted skyscrapers? How’s this for skyscrapers?

I had never heard of Greeley Square before, but I liked it very much.

The view from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building. We went to the top of Rockefeller Center the day before and had no plans to go up to the Empire State Building observation level, but once we were there we couldn’t not go. Here we look down at the Chrysler building.

Welcome to Times Square.

The Toys ‘R Us ferris wheel was the reason for our visit to Times Square. Unfortunately the tickets on sale when we got there were for over an hour away. It was too long to wait.

We did get to see another T-Rex while we were there.

Our walk through Times Square took place during the start of rush hour. Talk about your mobs of people!

And we’ll close up with a couple of pictures of the sun setting behind the Statue of Liberty. Day two in the city was another great day.

I only have the first day’s worth of pictures up right now. Here are some highlights.

When we got into Central Park I took my camera out of the bag and found one totally dead battery. I am a friggin’ idiot. My lovely wife was kind enough to let me use her camera for the day so these are all taken with her Canon PowerShot SX10 IS.

None of us had every ridden on the New York subway. Until now.

It would be so cool to have a gig here.

Every time I go on vacation, all of the buildings are under construction.

The only negatives for the Top of the Rock (the observation area on top of Rockefeller Center) were the glass walls (hence the awful reflections) and the building blocking the view of the Chrysler Building.

We came home from our trip to New York, a trip that included hours upon hours of driving time all of which was spent listening to Rush live albums, only to find that amazon had delivered my copy of Rush R30 on blu-ray.

It’s been a live Rush weekend and the live Rush continues.

The car is loaded and we are checking out of the hotel.

I hate when fun trips come to an end.

Rain, the bane of the vacationer’s existence.

It’s supposed to rain and storm all day today. That pretty much bites.

The morning we are going to try and beat the weather by staying closer to Stamford, CT. There is an aquarium in Norwalk with a meerkats exhibit. Why would you have meerkats in an aquarium? Robbie don’t get it.

We’ll see how things go in CT today. It’s going to be great no matter where we go.

We weren’t going to do it because we did the Top of the Rock yesterday…

But we did it anyway.

Yesterday we went to Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History (where we saw real dinosaurs), Rockafellar Center (where we went to the Top of the Rock), and then to dinner at an Irish Pup called PJ Moran’s.

Today we are thinking about the Staten Island Ferry and Times Square. I’ll let you know how it goes.
