Bad Day

Spent some time in the emergency room this morning. How’s that for a shitty start to the day? I had some symptoms of a migraine but I never got the killer headache. I also think I’m catching another cold. Fun, eh?

So I didn’t get to chop up last night’s bad practice recording (too much bass), and I didn’t get to re-watch last night’s episode of The Walking Dead, and I didn’t go to those two big meetings I had scheduled at work.

I did watch a couple of episodes of Greg the Bunny (the Fox show) and it made me happy. Unfortunately, I still feel like a dishrag that spent a full day at the bottom of a sink full of dirty, greasy water that was wrung out by someone who does not know their own strength.

Yeah, back to bed I go.

PS: My wife went to the hospital with me. She took care of me. She made me feel better when I was convincing myself that I was having a stroke. She honestly is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I could not imagine loving her more than I do, and yet every now and then I realize I love her more than I thought I did. Today was one of those days. Thank you, Jenny. I love you so much.

Practice Practice Practice

On my way to band practice. I had to back out last week, so it’s been a while. I played a fair bit of guitar this week, but I didn’t actually practice a whole lot. Hopefully it doesn’t all fall apart on me.

I’m bringing my old MacBook Pro (mid-2010 model) in the hopes that I can use it to record the band with GarageBand, and then just leave it there. I have a USB thumb drive too, so I can truck the files back and forth. We’ll see how it goes.

I’m also still planning on making a video of a rehearsal and trying to sync it to a GarageBand recording. I was thinking tonight might be the night for that, but I’m just going to keep an eye on the MacBook instead. Hopefully the old girl can keep up with the demands I am putting on it. Recording two hours of audio is pretty processor intensive.

Rock on, my Lizardfish brothers and sisters. Rock on.

PS: I’d say I was going to try to get the band to cover some ELP, but we don’t have a keyboard player, let alone a keyboard player who is the greatest keyboard player on Earth. Also, most of their songs don’t have guitar parts… so yeah, I don’t want to cover ELP.

Although, From the Beginning… or Karn Evil 9 (1st impression part 2) would be pretty amazing to pull off.

Nononono, sorry.

Suicide?

TMZ is reporting that Keith Emerson’s death is being investigated as a suicide. Damn it!

They reported that he had a degenerative nerve issue that was taking away his ability to play the keyboard and as a result he’d been suffering from depression. They also say his death was caused by a gun shot to the head.

There isn’t a lot to the story, but you can read it here.

If this is true then it makes the whole thing 100000 times worse. Couldn’t he have died in his sleep, surrounded by close friends and family the way he deserved? Damn it!

Keith Emerson

Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake & Palmer fame (also of The Nice) died last night. Last I heard we don’t know what happened, but the world has lost yet another gigantic talent.

When it came to keyboard players, for me it was a toss up between Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman, with Tony Banks and probably Jon Lord coming in a close second. His skill level as a performer (show off), arranger, composer, and overall musician can never, ever be overstated. Rest in Peace Keith Emerson.

Clouds

I thought the clouds bookin’ it across the sky outside of my window looked pretty cool. Also, I haven’t mentioned the passing of the greatest mind the field of audio recording has ever known (with the possible exception of Les Paul himself), Sir George Martin. The snippet of Jeff Beck from the Martin produced Blow by Blow record (1975) is used in Sir George’s memory.
