Statie

The building I work in is near the top of a hill that overlooks route 128 (that’s interstate 95 to you non-locals).  There is nothing but a little stretch of grass on a steep slope between the building and the highway.  My desk is on the top floor and I sit at a window that overlooks the road.

At this very moment there is a Massachusetts State Trooper parked in the Northbound breakdown lane, right in front of my window.  I very desperately want to make a Super Troopers joke right meow, but nothing is coming to me.  I feel so ashamed of myself.

Meow, I would be very surprised if the police officer, or officers, in that car are as clever and funny as the Vermont Staties in the movie, but I still expect those guys have some pretty funny stories to tell.  I have very limited experience with social situations that include off duty cops, but if I have learned anything in my few encounters… those cats have some seriously funny stories.

They have been parked there for about 20 minutes now.  What are they doing?  Are they acting as a speed trap?  Just lying in wait for some random unlawful behavior?  Are they investigating a crime?  Is it possible the state has dispatched them to solve the case of the tanking of the Boston Bruins who as of last night have lost five games in a row and seen their point cushion in the standings drop from 10 to one and who are now in grave danger of losing their playoff spot with only seven games left in the regular season?  I’d like to think that Massachusetts’ finest are on that case, but I tend to believe that it is a mystery that we’ll never be able to solve.

Band Practice

Sunday’s band practice was a mile on the sloppy side.  The mix is a little bass heavy, and my voice is WAY too loud.  I need to fix that next time… and I need to play a whole ton better than I have over the last two weeks.

Audio Test

I got an email from the site hearthis.at last night (that’s the site I use as a soundcloud replacement because I don’t particularly like soundcloud). It was a look-at-our-new-features update message. One of the new features it boasted about was the ability to embed their player into wordpress.com.

Eureka! That’s what I’ve been waiting for! Now I’ll test it to make sure they weren’t lying to me.

This is Lizardfish from last November. It’s far from perfect (not enough bass guitar, lots of little mistakes by everyone) but it was probably my best sounding GarageBand recording, and it was one of the first days I used the Big Muff, and my guitar sounds mean.

Please please please let this work so I never have to use soundcloud again….

Fail

I came up with this silly idea to set myself up recording wise so that I could leave all of my recording stuff at the band’s rehearsal space and still be able to record at home. Yeah, that worked out well. (#sarcasm)

I bought a bunch of inexpensive adapters to take the place of my Lexicon audio interface. I spent my lunch break today trying to record a guitar part. It was the first test and guess how much of it worked… Go on… Guess.

None of it. I even bought two versions of each adapter, on the chance that one might fail on me. Nope, they all sucked. One USB audio input actually got audio into GarageBand, but it sounded like it was recorded through a drain pipe 25 yards long. So guess who’s going back to amazon to do some Lexicon shopping.
