Go Bruins!

Two years ago today, our honeymoon took us to Los Angeles were we were pretty unimpressed with the city. We did see Hollywood Blvd (complete with hookers at 10:00am) and we took in a Dodgers game.

I have to think that at some point the spanking will run out of steam and we’ll settle back into tight, close games like game one and two. Yes, the Bruins lost those two games, but there were really up in the air. They were so close that anyone could have won. I’m not worried about those games anymore. If it happens again, we’ll win again, the way we did against Tampa Bay.

Still, as the series heads back to the West coast for game five in Vancouver, we have a free day here to just sit back and enjoy the fact that the Bruins have evened the series at two games a piece by way of two dominating, ass-kicking victories at the Garden.

Game five will be a must win, just the same way games three and four were. We cannot let the Canucks get any of the momentum back. We have to kick them when they’re down… much the same way they failed to kick us when we were down after we lost two in a row. We cannot put them into a position where they can have a chance to eliminate us. We need to win this in six. We can’t give them any life. They are WAY too good a team. If we give them an inch they’ll take the series. Hold them off. Win game five. Win the series in six. Your fans are begging you, oh Mighty Heroic Boston Bruins.

The Red Sox beat the Yankees tonight, 11-6, to move into first place in the American League East.

Over at the Garden, the Bruins have a 4-0 lead over the Canucks with 5:30 left to play in the third period.

Should thing continue the way they are going so far tonight, we could end up with quite the happy night.

Is my Cautious Optimism being overrun by a sudden cockiness? I hope not.

After the way the Bruins slaughtered the Canucks in game three it seems like we Bruins fans are feeling an over abundance of confidence.

Why?

Lest we forget that our home town team is still trailing. Game three was such a resounding victory that it almost feels like we have the lead in the series. We have to cut that crap right out. We’re still down. We still need to be desperate. Yes, game three was an absolute blast but it doesn’t erase games one and two. We are still behind by a game.

We need to tie this up tonight. We need to go back to Vancouver for game five with a clean slate. We need to turn this into a best of three.

We need to win tonight.

We must win tonight.

Game three is a happy memory, but game four needs the same intensity and focus and brute force that game three had. We need our team to repeat the performance.

Two years ago today my lovely newly wed bride and I went to the San Diego zoo, Balboa National Park, and Mission Beach. We did so much on that day that I can’t even sum it all up without writing about 10 pages worth of stuff. It was a fantastic day, made especially wonderful by the simple fact that we spent it together.

I know we won game three. I considered that a must win game. You would think the pressure has eased a little going into game four, but I disagree. I think game four is just as much of a must win as game three was.

We can’t let Vancouver get that third win. We can’t lose that cushion that we have between the current standings and the elimination game. In other words, we cannot let them get to the point where they are one win away. The Bruins have to get there first.

Game four is a must win. Tie the series. Even it up. Take away their lead. Take away their cushion. Take away their confidence. We spanked them bad in game three but we have to keep the momentum. We have to keep the pressure on. We can’t let them think that game three was an aberration. We have to make them fear us. We have to get inside their heads. We have to continue to rattle them.

We have to win!

I should also mention that it was two years ago today that I saw current Red Sox Super Hero in the Making, Adrian Gonzales, play for San Diego.

Two years ago today we spent our first full day honeymooning in California. I touched the Pacific Ocean for the first time. We also drove through La Jolla, and went to an 18 inning Padres game, and saw the Gas Lamp quarter. It was another great honeymooning day.
