California Vacation – Day 2

The first day of our California Vacation was spent traveling. Methuen to Boston to San Diego to Anaheim.

Day 2 started out as Day 1 ended, with fears of my step daughter’s sore throat. She woke up and immediately told Jen that we were definitely going to Disneyland. Sadly, this show of force did not quite mesh with the reality of how miserable she was looking and feeling. We hoped that breakfast might perk her up, but it didn’t quite work. Some calls were made to her doctor’s office and some antibiotics were prescribed and called into a local CVS. Shortly after the first dose she started feeling better.

Off to Disneyland we went. We fully intended to spend the whole day at the Magic Kingdom (is that what they call it in California too?) but when we got there we ended up buying a 1 day park hopper and we headed into Disney’s California Adventure park. We saw an AWESOME 3D Muppet Movie and my step son and I got drenched on Grizzly’s River Rapids ride. Jen and my step daughter went to Ariel’s Grotto while we were getting soaked. After that we had a quick lunch and headed to the Magic Kingdom.

We saw the Abraham Lincoln exhibit, almost by accident. Then we went on the Buzz Lightyear ride. My score was only about 37,000. As previously mentioned, my step son and I tried to go on Space Mountain but there wasn’t enough leg room for the 11 foot tall guy to safely ride so we got screwed. It was lucky, in a way, because despite having ridden the Florida version of the ride, my step son was on the verge of panic just as we got into the car. I’m not sure he would have done too well on that ride.

Jen and my step daughter went on a few rides while we were struggling with Space Mountain, and afterward we met up and walked through Sleeping Beauty’s castle and rode some of the more kid-friendly rides. We made it as far as It’s a Small World (which is 10 times better in California than Florida) and then ran out of gas and headed back to the hotel. One bad take out pizza later and we’re all falling asleep.

Tomorrow’s plans are up in the air. We know we want to take the kids to see the Hollywood sign, and we know we have to get back to San Diego. If you can think of anything kid friendly to do in Los Angeles and want to leave a comment, we would all be very thankful.

Denied

I tried.

My step son really wanted to go on Space Mountain. I tried to go with him but my legs are so long that I could not fit in the tiny, hobbit sized seats and we had to get off.

Just a little embarrassed, but at least it was my legs that failed me and not the gigantic size of my ass.

Time Zone

I can’t remember from my one previous West coast trip but I was asleep at 8:00pm last night and awake at 4:30 this morning.

My step daughter has a sore throat and there was a lot of I-don’t-want-to-ruin-the-trip drama. Today Jen and I both agreed that we wouldn’t make any plans beyond breakfast. We would operate in wait-and-see mode. Then my step daughter woke up and announced that she was going to Disneyland no matter how her throat felt.

I guess that decision has been made then.
