Dolphins

As mentioned previously, on the first sunny morning, Tuesday it was, we dashed over to Mission Beach at about 7:00am to take advantage of the weather.  We all waded into the ocean.  Maybe 20 feet away from us we started seeing things breaking the surface.  It wasn’t constant, but it was pretty regular.  At first I thought it was a whale.  Then we saw a bunch of them, and started getting better, albeit brief, looks.

They were dolphins.  We couldn’t tell how many, but it seemed like there might have been a whole pod.  It was so awesome.

Here is one.  You can barely see the fin, but it’s there.  Look for the black spot a little lower than the horizon, about a third of the way from the left side of the image.

Here’s a close crop of two of them.  It’s blurry and crummy, but that’s because I only had the little Casio point and shoot.  If I had the D90 I could have zoomed a little closer, and maybe seen a little clearer, but they broke the surface so quick that it probably wouldn’t have mattered much.

I know the pictures don’t do the moment justice, but for us it was outstandingly amazing to witness.  They were so close we could almost talk to them.  It was magic, really.  What a great moment.

Everything is Up on Flickr

After hours upon hours of internet trials and tribulations, all of my keeper pictures from the trip are up on Flickr.

This particular picture was taken from Point Loma, looking over the cliff down onto the harbor. See those white splashes? Those are dolphins. How much ass does that kick?

Tons.

Our New Friend

Now the third party upload program is acting stupid. What a chore! C’mon Flickr, get you act together!

Here is one that went up last night. We made a lot of new friends when we visited La Jolla Cove.

Flickr Woes

Flickr is pissing me off.  I blame yahoo.

I have had to resort to a third party upload program because the new upload program is shit and the old upload program no longer works.

Oh well, at least the Red Sox have won six in a row.  (it is six, right?  I’ve been out of town)

I will write something about the slime that has ruined any good feelings related to the Bruins this season at some point, and the second round of the playoffs has started and I still haven’t posted my predictions.  (like I said, I’ve been away)

I’ll get to it, but I want those damn pictures up first.

Damn it.

Go Red Sox
Go Los Angeles Kings

Unpacking

Unpacking is a drag. Fortunately we packed very light, so it’s not too bad.

So last night I was uploading to Flickr. Round about midnight they updated the site with a new upload process. Guess what… It doesn’t work. It only takes 100 files at a time and when it finished processing them it hangs, seemingly forever. They still have a link to the old upload routine, but guess what… That doesn’t work either.

I haven’t tried it today. Hopefully they had a team of developers working all night to fix the bugs… But it’s yahoo so somehow I doubt it.

Thanks Flickr!
