VICTORY!

That’s right kids, your Boston Red Sox are now in first place in the American League East division!  Oh Yeah!  We are #1, babie!  #1 all the way!

(yes, I know it’s only one game and I know there are still 161 more to go, and I know that the Sox/Yankees game that just ended is the only final score the division has had yet. I know all of that. I don’t care. Don’t ruin this for me, you jerks. It has been a long, long time)

April Fools Pranks

There was a time when Google rolled out the best April Fools pranks you could ever hope to find on the internet.  These days, you still get the feeling that April Fools is like Christmas, New Years, and your birthday all rolled into one for many Google employees, but the pranks are not what they used to be.

They have a couple of decent ones today.  I’ve only found two, but I’m sure there are more.

I have also heard that some one posted that the Red Sox have signed Curt Schilling.  That’s a good one.

I saw one last night too and that threw me off completely.  Soundcloud’s blog posted something that seemed ridiculous.  I thought it was an April Fools joke that leaked early.  A minute ago it dawned on me that Soundcloud is based in Germany.  The joke wasn’t early, I was.  Oh well..

A Dangerous Place

I am in a dangerous place today. I never watch The Walking Dead on broadcast TV. No one else in my house watches it, and I don’t want to cause nightmares for anyone. Therefore I bought the season pass from iTunes. After each episode airs, I can download it and watch it. I generally watch it on my iPad the evening after it airs, just after my beloved wife has gone to sleep.

That leaves me in danger of the dreaded spoiler. Facebook and work are the two places I must be most careful. A quick perusal of the Facebook has not caused any problems yet, but I did notice Wil Wheaton said something about Carl being right, but Carl is always right, isn’t he? A Facebook friend also posted that he was not pleased with the finale. If that’s all the spoiling I get then I will be pleased. Lets hope that no one blows it for me.

But even if someone does blow it for me, I’m still going to watch it tonight. In fact, it’s downloading onto my iPad at this very moment.

Red Sox

Oh hey, tomorrow is April first. You know what that means, right?

Redemption, muthas!

Red Sox opening day. The Sox take on the F*#%€£g Yankees at 1:00. Schmucko the Clown is gone, the pitching staff gets a fresh start, the chicken and beer fiasco is in the distant past.

Redemption! Cart Blanche. The record is 0-0. I don’t expect the World Series, but I’m optimistic that we won’t be setting any franchise records for futility. 82 wins or bust, baby!

Go Red Sox!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate it.

There isn’t much celebrating going on here today. I’m on call until tomorrow morning, so we won’t be visiting family. The kids are at their dad’s house, so there won’t be any Easter Bunny shenanigans, although there are a couple of baskets of candy in the living room that weren’t there yesterday. Hmmm. They must be for me! Jen is going to cook a ham today, because she’s a wonderful person, but she is going to work too. I need to clean the mini van as we have a group of five going on a drive one day this week and the rear seats need to be put in. If I am doing that much, then I might as well clean out the whole pig sty. Other than that, maybe some hammy music to go with the ham dinner while I wait for my phone to not ring?

Happy Easter.

Fire

Last night Jen and I did something that we occasionally do. We wanted to go out to eat, but couldn’t decide where. When that happens we will sometimes just get in the car, pick a direction, start driving, and see what we find.

In yesterday’s case we didn’t find anything that seemed right. We went as far south as Woburn before turning around. When we crossed back into Methuen on route 110 we decided to see if there was anything appealing on Riverside Drive. Not long after crossing into Lawrence, we came upon a scary scene.

Hancock Street was one block to the North and a big chunk of it was on fire. We saw crowds of people on Riverside, about a dozen firemen, and all, sorts of fire fighting equipment. There was a lot of smoke in the air, and in a couple of spots we could look to our left and see massive, thick smoke on the next street over.

Jen did a little Internet news searching and we found that as of 7:00pm or so, two houses had collapsed and a third was destroyed. My heart goes out to the people who lost their homes. May they get back on their feet quickly.

Whenever you hear about emergency situations in Lawrence these days, the first thought is always to their much publicized budget problems and their insanely huge cuts in police and fire staff. By the time we saw things, there were fire companies from all of the nearby towns assisting, but there must have been some stressful moments for the Lawrence Fire Department when they arrived on the scene and saw how bad it was.

The other thought you have when you hear about a fire in Lawrence is the arson spree that happened there back in the 90’s. it was in the 90’s, wasn’t it? Whenever it was, you do not want to see that insanity start happening again.

Fortunately, Jen’s Internet news searching yesterday told us that no one was hurt during the fire. That is good news, and I hope it’s still the case today.
