Yesterday we were all about my step daughter’s geography bee. Today it’s all about both kids and their karate tournament. We have a brown belt and a black belt to root for.
Well, my step daughter didn’t win today. She did not make it to the final round. She was asked eight questions and she got three of them right. Not good enough to pass the preliminaries, but plenty good enough to prove how totally awesome she is.
While she was out of the auditorium competing, they played a video of last year’s national finals. Of all the questions asked to each of the 10 finalists I got exactly one correct. These questions are hard.
One item of note. Among the 10 national finalists from last year, one was a seventh grade girl from New Hampshire. This year that girl is, obviously, an eighth grader. We believe she was in my step daughter’s preliminary group. I’m not making excuses, but I am looking toward the future. She got there this year as a sixth grader. She’s got two more cracks at this. I hope she sticks with it.
Between now and then though, Ms Black Belt and young Mr Brown Belt are in a karate tournament tomorrow. Butts will be kicked.
I am so proud I can’t even describe it.
My step daughter is currently competing in the preliminary round of the geo-bee state finals. There are five groups. Two kids from each group make the final round. We are not allowed to watch the preliminary round which means I have no clue how much ass she is kicking. I need info!
Today is a very special day.
Six years ago today my beloved wife and I went on our first date. We had dinner at the Outback in Lowell and then spent the rest of the night out at the Brewery in Lowell. It was the best date I ever had. It was the turning point in my life. Everything has been better since then. I love her like crazy.
Jaromir Jagr made his debut as a Bruin last night. How’d he do? Not bad. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 Bruins win over the Devils. Just a game winning goal in his first game, that’s all. Just 15,000 Boston fans chanting his name as if he were the second coming of Phil Esposito. That’s all.
May it be the first of many.
Go Bruins!
Today is a big day. My step daughter is competing in the state finals for the National Geographic Middle School Geography Bee. We are all going to be there cheering her on. I am so proud of her I could spontaneously combust. She’s only in sixth grade, and she beat a bunch of really smart sixth, seventh, and eight graders in order to earn her spot in the final. I can’t wait to see how she does today.
Wish my step daughter Good Luck!
