Winter Wonderland

I just shoveled the end of the driveway. Pardon me a minute while I die of exhaustion…

…okay, I’m back.

The yard is most definitely a winter wonderland today. I saw three deer playing in the snow in the woods. Of course, they may have been bouncing around because the snow was too deep for them to walk. That would mean they weren’t exactly playing, but possibly struggling for survival. Still, they looked like they were playing.

I’ve seen two of my favorite back yard wilderness birds today. Cardinals and woodpeckers. All we need now is an owl and a red tailed hawk and the day will be a jackpot all around.

Apart from the horrors of the snow removal, of course. I’m going to take a fist full of aspirin now. Talk to you all later.

The Bird Hero

I am a hero to countless birds!

On Wednesday I filled both bird feeders. On Thursday it snowed all day and all night.

Now here we are on Friday, and there are at least 10 birds at the feeders right now. All different shapes, sizes, and colors. Rumor has it they are going to build a statue in my honor.

It’s New Years Day for Deer Too

We just had seven deer walking down the street. They came out of the woods at our driveway, walked down the street and walked into the neighbor’s yard.

A few days ago, I saw six of them in the woods. A couple of years ago I saw eight at once. This time there were seven. Maybe someday I’ll get a definitive count on the deer population. Still, walking down the street? How freakin’ awesome was that???

Winter Classic

I’m watching the NHL Winter Classic between Detroit and Toronto. Both teams are in Boston’s division, and I just hate them both in general. I’d like to figure out a way for both teams to lose.

I love this event even though the weather makes the actual hockey kinda suck. What really ruins things this year is that there will be six outdoor games instead of just one. The Olympics are a great event for NHL fans too. Maybe we should pause every season for an international tournament. All Star games can be fun too, why don’t we have five or six of those each year as well.

The fact that the outdoor game was once a year was the very thing that made the event so special. Doing it more than once waters it down to the point where it’s no big deal anymore. Hey, why not have 30 per season. We can have two outdoor Saturdays. One in January, where half of the teams can host a game at a football or baseball stadium, and then another in February where the other half of the teams host. That should pretty much suck all of the life out of playing outside. Let’s do it!

Or… We can just have the one Winter Classic game on New Year’s Day.

Old Person

I made it to midnight last night! In fact I made it to about 1:20am! Woohoo, look at the old guy livin’ it up!

When I woke up this morning I looked up at the clock… 9:41. Hehehe, not quite like the 20-something Robbie, he would have slept past noon, but still like a boss, babie.

Happy New Year.

New Years Eve

How’s your New Years Eve going? Just under three hours until midnight here in New England. The kids are doing great. My step daughter watched a movie that was a touch too grown up for my step son, so we played some games while she was occupied. We played the most difficult Red Sox trivia game on Earth while listening to the Bruins blow a three to one lead.

Jen is doing okay with the whole staying awake thing. The kids are doing just fine, no problems there. I’m already drifting off. I don’t know if I’m going to make it to midnight. It’s going to be a challenge. Get over here, caffeine! Get in my bloodstream!

Allow me to wish you all a Happy New Year. May your 2014 be a happy and healthy year.
