This Day in History

In the wee hours of the morning 37 years ago today, my father woke up little six year old me and my nine year old sister to give us some news. Mom had the baby. We had a little brother and his name was John.

That’s nice, we said. Then we rolled over and went back to sleep.

No offense, John.

Happy 37th birthday to my baby brother! Everyone wish him a good one.

Note: I don’t actually remember how we reacted. Logic dictates it was probably sleepily. I don’t think we got out of bed. I think we waited until the sun came up to go and meet the new addition to the family.

Ice bucket

I’m worried…

My sister in law and one of my friends did the ALS ice bucket challenge thingie today.  My little niece did it too.  My wife was also given the challenge today.  It’s not only close to home now, it’s in the house!

I don’t want to do it.  I told Jen I’d pay the donation instead of drowning myself in ice water.

But my niece did it today.  How can I wuss out if my niece did it?

Nonono.  Robbie’s sticking to his wimpy yet dry guns.  Notgonnadoit.

Random Monday Thoughts

Here are a couple of random thoughts for a pre-work Monday morning.

The drive from Methuen to Canton today took less than an hour. We are firmly in the summer traffic lull. Two weeks from now cities and towns will be starting up their school years and the 55 minute drive I made today will take 90+ minutes. I know how bad it gets, but seeing how good it can be (not that 55 minutes is really that good) just makes September through June that much worse.

I indirectly gave my step kids the weirdest compliment they are ever likely to get. I was in my room getting dressed and that cat jumped onto the bed where I was sitting and got all affectionate. I tend to baby talk to the cat when I am petting her. I was saying goofy things about how the kitty loved her mummy and her big sister and her big brother. Then I said that kitty’s sister and brother love her too because they have good taste in kitties.

I told the cat that the kids have good taste in kitties. What the hell is wrong with my brain? How did that sentence even form in my head? Good taste in kitties? Please!

I played a lot of guitar this weekend. On Friday I finished (except for vocals) one song and started another. On Saturday I finished two songs (except for vocals) and started another. On Sunday I started four songs. That’s nine songs worth of guitars recorded. I was not physically prepared for so much playing and today my finger tips are literally on fire. Oh the pain!

MLB 14: The Show

I bought a copy of MLB 14: The Show for Playstation 4. I haven’t played a baseball game on a console system since Ken Griffey Slugfest on the N64. I just don’t care for baseball on video games. They are either insultingly difficult, or so easy they aren’t fun.

I set the difficulty level to beginner and kicked off the 2014 season. I then took a perfect game into the eighth inning.

Too easy?

Methinks yes.

I Feel Like I Should Post Something

I feel like I should post something but I don’t know what. I was thinking about trying to sneak up to the ocean for some sunrise pics but I’m way too tired. Maybe Sunday morning. We’ll see.

I’ve done it (sunrise pics) at Salisbury Beach, which is in Massachusetts. I’ve done it at Hampton Beach, which is in New Hampshire. It only makes sense that the next one happens in Maine. Old Orchard Beach has a pier that is super cool and would look really good with some long exposure jazz happening in the water around it, but I am not sure that the sun actually rises over water there. The beach is actually in a bay and the land extends out into the water. If the angle is wrong, the sun would actually rise over the land. I spent some time looking at pics tonight both via Flickr and Google Images and it looks like it might be okay some days but not others. Either that or there was a lot of distance between the camera positions on some of those pics. I don’t know. The pier alone probably makes it okay, but if I am going to drive an hour to see the sunrise, I want to see the damn thing rise over the ocean, not the land. I can do that at home.

There. I felt like I should post something and now I have.
