Day Eight – Be a Good Neighbor

Today’s challenge is to leave comments on at least four posts. Done. You know, I thought this was going to be writing prompts. It seems that very little of the blogging 101 assignments have involved actual blogging. I am losing interest at a remarkable rate.

I just reread last night’s email I was supposed to bookmark the posts I commented on. I’ll need them for a future day’s challenge.

Um… no. I am already following every blog I commented on (hence my pulling them from the Reader), I’m not bookmarking them too.

I think I might be done with blogging 101.

Day Seven – Keep Personalizing

SOL on this one.  The challenge for today is as follows:

Today’s assignment: create and upload a simple header, background, or both. Already done? Try a widget.

I would if I could, but I can’t.  My new theme does not support headers.  My last theme did, and I would update it now and then.  Not today though.  No header for me.

I could add a background, but I don’t want to.  I don’t like backgrounds.  I feel that they get in the way.  Especially when added by someone like me who is not a graphic designer and who just pulls in a picture that he likes.  So no header and no background for me.

Widgets, however.  I usually keep a bunch of them on the side bar.  Unfortunately, when I changed themes the other day all of the widgets I had were inactivated.  So, in the spirit of blogging 101, I went in and reactivated them.  Do you see the menu on the left?  Somewhere around there (depending on the dimensions of your screen) there will be a little folder icon.  Click that puppy and enjoy widget bliss.

Google Domination

Google has come one step closer to World Domination!!!

Well, maybe not world domination, but definitely apps-on-my-iPhone domination.

They have released an iOS version of their Google Calendar app.  Add it to the list of Google apps I chose to use over the native Apple apps.  Calendar, Gmail, Chrome, Maps… And counting.

And no, I have absolutely no interest in switching to an Android phone.  Zero.  None.

Day Six – Make an Irresistible “About” Page

The first challenge of week two is to write an About page. I had an about page already, but I did what the challenge asked of me.

Here it is.

The email with tomorrow’s challenge just came in. They come out at midnight Greenwich Mean Time. Which last week was 8:00pm Eastern time. Now it’s 9:00 Eastern time. Let’s go see what they want me to do tomorrow. Why do I fear it is not an actual blog post?

Spring Ahead to Daylight Savings

Daylight savings began last night.  At some point in the wee hours the clock jumped forward one hour.  The upside is that the sun will still be up when I leave work, although it will still be a while before its up when I get home, stupid long commute.  The downside for the short term is it will be darker when we leave to take the kids to school in the morning.  The immediate downside of course is that we lost an hour of sleep last night.

It doesn’t make much difference to me because, as usual, I lost about four hours of sleep.  For some reason my body revolts at the clock moving concept.  Be it the fall or the spring, I just don’t sleep much on DST event nights. This year is no exception.  At least there are a bunch of deer behind the house to keep me company.

Boiled Dinner

We went all Irish around here today. We don’t have the kids for St Patrick’s Day so we had a corned beef boiled dinner today. Jen’s mom and step father came over too. A good time was had by all. Youtube clips of the Tonight Show were viewed and enjoyed as well as the Lego Movie and a small mountain of corned beef.

Day Four — Bliss

Today’s photo prompt is bliss. This is a tough one. Tough enough that I am breaking one of my personal unwritten rules. I decided after posting the first photo101 picture that I wasn’t going to use any text other than the post title. You’d see the topic in the title, see the picture, and then you either would or would not get the connection. I don’t really care either way. Seeing as I am generally a super literal type I would guess that getting the connection is going to be pretty obvious.

For this one though… Bliss. It could mean so many things. What are the things that make me ridiculously happy?

Well, music has historically been my go to for happiness. How do I represent music in a photograph? That’s easy.

But does music make me happier than anything else? It’s definitely high on the list, but there are other serious contenders. Over the last 10 years or so traveling has become a source of major happiness for me. I love seeing new places, or seeing old places in a new way. How can I represent travel in a photograph without breaking another rule and using old pictures? The answer there is pretty obvious too.

That’s a good option, but is it the best option? Probably not. Nothing makes me happier than being at home with my family. How do I represent that in a photograph without showing pictures of the kids, which I will not do? Well, it’s a bit of a stretch, but the connection is accurate. Ms Patches can be the symbol of the family.

Yeah, that’s good and all, but what is the origin of the happiness that I feel when I’m at home with my family? What is the source of it all? Well, that’s easy. It’s easy and it’s obvious and it is my #1 answer for a photograph that depicts what the word Bliss means to me. No question about it. This is bliss.

Theme

I didn’t plan on changing the blog theme.  I occasionally get emails shilling new themes.  I tried one today and liked it, then didn’t, then did.  I half expected the next blogging 101 prompt to be updating the theme.  It’s not.  Whew.

Is this new one okay?  Do you like it?
