One Show Down

Last night’s school play performance was awesome! My step daughter was the lead and she was outstanding! I am so proud I might explode! She did such a great job. I can’t even tell ya, she was so good. All of the kids were, the whole thing was excellent. Forgive me though if I heap my praise onto one particular little mermaid.

The second show is tonight but another girl will be playing the lead. They have two casts (mostly) so they can spread the glory around a little. There are two shows on Saturday, one with each cast. I want to go tonight but I can’t. I will go to both shows tomorrow. Count on it.

Ouch

Both yesterday and today, prior to leaving for work, I snuck in a little recording time.  I played the bass part on one song.  I haven’t touched a bass guitar since the summer of 2011 (August, I think).  All together I’ve probably spent a whopping 30 minutes playing on those humongous strings and… ouch.  Like… ouch.

I’ve heard it said that women’s brains are wired to forget about the pain of childbirth because if they retained the memory of the pain they would never have a second child.  I don’t know if that’s true or not, and I don’t mean to compare my stinging fingers to childbirth, but… I wonder if the same thing happened to me.  As I was playing along with one of my bad songs I had a clear memory of me swearing I would never play bass again because, ouch.

Psychology… ain’t it groovy?

Drama

My step daughter is the lead in her school play.  Her first performance is tomorrow.  I asked her if she was excited.  She said she was scared… And excited.  I’m really excited for her and I’m wicked nervous for her and I can’t wait to see the show.  It’s going to be great.  She’s going to be great.

Commuter Math

My car has a gauge that measures both distance and time. I zeroed it when I left this morning and that allows me to do a little commuter math.

When the clock hit 30 minutes I had traveled 23.5 miles. That’s an average speed of 47 miles per hour. That’s pretty fantastic for a Wednesday morning.

When the clock hit 60 minutes I had traveled 29 miles. That means my average speed over the second 30 minute time period was 11 miles per hour. My average speed for the entire trip dropped from 47 miles per hour to 29 miles per hour.

I stopped keeping track after that. The traffic broke at 63 minutes. I forgot to check the total time for the drive, but it was less than an hour and 20 minutes. Over all the time was about average. It was a pretty normal morning drive. The first 30 minutes seemed pretty fast, and the second 30 minutes felt pretty slow, but it all sort of evened out in the end.

You are all looking completely fascinated right now. You should see your faces.

Uh Oh

I fear I’m getting sick, though I might just be really tired.

I’m sitting here watching Cosmos.  Best show on TV.  I’m looking forward to seeing Star Talk on TV too.

I have a lot of stuff to do at work this week.  I can’t get sick.  I have a lot of stuff to do at home this week.  I can’t get sick.  Did I mention my Squire bass came home with me last night.  New musical stuff to do.

I don’t want to get sick.  I can’t get sick.

Antici…

…pation.

Is it June 23rd and/or June 29th yet?

Will this be the last tour?

Will they play Bangkok?

Nah, they never play Bangkok.

So far we have tickets for Boston and New York. I don’t think there’s much chance of any additional shows this time around, but there’s always Toronto and Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Rush… R40… Be there or be square…er than being a Rush fan already makes you.

Personally I’m hoping for the first full blown Cygnus X-1 Book 1 and 2 set since 1979. They could follow that up with a full run through of Clockwork Angels, then a full By-Tor suite, complete with all of The Necromancer, and then just play 2112 all the way through… twice.

I can’t friggin’ wait.

Happy Spring

According to my calendar today is the first day of Spring!  Happy Spring, everyone!  You survived another Winter!  Nice job!

The temperature in Methuen, Massachusetts right now is 16 degrees Farenheight and the forecast for tonight calls for snow.

Happy Spring, everyone!

Day Twelve – Increase Your Commenting Confidence

Today’s blogging 101 assignment is read six posts that use the writing prompt I picked last night and comment on at least two of them.

I did it…

But we’re into the third week of this thing now and we’re still getting asked to do things that don’t involve actually writing anything on our own page? Is this blogging 101 or is it being active in wordpress.com 101? ‘Cause I think this has more to do with generating wordpress.com traffic than anything else. I’m kinda pissed off about it. Like, what a waste of time this thing has been.
