The Avengers

The kids are in school vacation this week because New Hampshire is a bunch of heathens who have their breaks the week after Massachusetts.

They are at our house on Thursday and Friday. I telecommute on Thursday so they can stay home with me. I took a vacation day on Friday so I can stay home with them. It just so happens that Friday is the day The Avengers movie opens. Well, I guess we’ll just have to go and see it then, huh?

I bought tickets today through fandango.com and saw something completely unbelievable. What could it have been you ask? Well I’ll tell you…

Reserved seating.

That’s right, my movie tickets have seat numbers on them. Assigned seating… at the movies… talk about heathens! This is Amrrica, and in Amrrica movie seating is first come first serve! Are they going to have ushers too? Why in my day we had to get to the theater two hours early or we’d be stuck in the front row. That’s the way it was and we liked it!

Reserved seating at the movies… communists.

Denied

I mentioned a couple of nights ago that in a fit of net nerd boredom I made a twitter and an ello and a tumblr for the band. What little content was there came from the facebook page that they used prior to me joining. Apparently the gentleman I replaced made all sorts of graphic designs that they were using as flyers for gigs and what not. Some of them are pretty cool. I nabbed them off the page and posted a few to tumblr and ello and used others as profile pics and backgrounds.

Now I will take them all down.

A little backstory. When the first version of the band started playing we didn’t have a PA system. I took it upon myself to buy a small one for use at rehearsals. Then shortly afterwards I quit. Mike and Kevin were going to keep the band going and asked if they could keep using it until they got something new. I was more than happy to say yes.

They replaced me, then later replaced the singer, and the band settled down, worked up a set, and started playing out. The new guitar player was good. I only saw them twice but I thought they came off very well and I was happy for them. During this time their guitar player started making those logo designs and put together a website. I liked it. It was nice and minimal with lots of white space. Just how I like ’em. He also bought the band a really nice PA system. I don’t know if they used it for gigs or not but it was way better than the dinky little thing I bought.

Then the guitar player decided to leave. Again, Mike and Kevin and now Greg asked if they could borrow the PA system. He said no. That’s a little surprising, but what can you do. He might have had another band lined up that would also need a PA. Who can say. So it was only a little surprising, but nothing out of the ordinary. He also told him that he was not going to let them use the website he set up. Again, surprising but not unheard of. It was his work after all, if he wanted to keep it for himself then that’s his prerogative. Then he said he wouldn’t give up the domain name. That is surprising. What use could he have for it?

When I joined the band I set up a tumblr with the idea that it would be a free replacement for the lost website. I put up a picture and forgot about it. Then this week I went back and went nuts, as previously mentioned.

Today the former guitar player told Kevin he didn’t want the band to use his designs anymore. Okay, I guess. I’ll comply and take those posts down. I wasn’t in the band when they were made. I have no claim to them. The other three guys didn’t know about the accounts when I set them up (they do now) so I will honor the request. I’m just not sure why. I would have gladly given him credit for his work if he had asked. I was going to add a couple of videos from youtube from some of their past gigs. He was going to be represented positively. Hell, I’m a fan! I wouldn’t be in the band now if they hadn’t had him to keep things going when I left before. I’m thankful for that. Oh well, what can you do, right?

Calendar Blues

What’s going on with the calendar? The last two weeks have been agonizingly slow. By Tuesday I’ve been asking if it was the weekend yet. At the same time though, while the days and weeks seem slow, the months are FLYING by. Do you realize that the first day of May is next week? NEXT WEEK! How is that possible? wasn’t Christmas just yesterday? Wasn’t the raging winter hell just this morning?

I don’t know. Maybe I’m just upset with myself. I made a great big honkin’ bowl of quinoa for dinner tonight and… well… it wasn’t good. What’s wrong with me? I’m so disappointed in myself. That quinoa never hurt anyone and here I am making it taste not so good. I’m sorry quinoa.

Social Media Nerd

Well… I’m sitting here watching the Red Sox. They are about to lose an out on a replay review. I’m feeling easily distracted tonight and well… the band now has a tumblr, a twitter, an ello, and a soundcloud.

I can’t help it. I am the king of social media nerds.

More Gore

Last night I cut myself while chopping vegetables.  This morning I cut my chin while shaving.  Both incidents combined resulted in about 3 gallons of blood loss*.  It’s been an ugly couple of days at my house.  I expect that I will make a full recovery, but I am still worried about one thing…

…I think the cat can smell blood.  She was looking at me funny this morning, almost as if she suddenly saw me as a walking lunch menu.  I think I am in trouble.

*When I say 3 gallons of blood loss, I really mean that there was probably enough blood to almost fill a really small eye dropper.  Almost.

Slice and Dice and Gore

I was thinking of practicing the guitar tonight. You know, noodle around on a few songs from last night’s rehearsal. Maybe come up with a new riff or two.

No. That was the plan from… before.

That was the plan from before I sliced a chunk out of my left middle finger while dicing up some pepper to put in the quinoa.

Oh quinoa! You are a cruel south american mistress. I bleed for thee. I bleed for thee!

At least I did until I washed it out and put a band aid on it. Stupid fat middle finger always getting in the way. I guess I’ll spend the evening watching Bob’s Burgers on Netflix instead of playing the guitar.

Oh well.

Here’s a god awful horrid sounding cover song from last night’s band practice. I’ve now played this thing with two different bands and I haven’t a friggin clue who played it originally.
