No SG for Me

The hormonal urge to purchase Gibson SG’s got to me again today and I went back to Guitar Center to try out the one I saw the other day.

Nope.  It wasn’t “the one” for me.  The action was a little too high, and the frets were a little too high, and the neck felt a little strange to me.  Nope.  I will move on.  Maybe go back to Amp shopping.  Marshall Origin, anyone?

ADDENDUM: Let’s just say… ebay.  There might be a bid out on an auction that ends about the time Fear the Walking Dead begins tonight.  I might… might… currently be the high bidder.  The price is so low that I would be stunned if I win, and I am most definitely not upping my bid.

Still, Still Safe

I ended up going to three Guitar shops today. Only the first one came close to taking my money. They had a used Gibson SG Standard selling for the maximum amount I was willing to spend. It was black though, and if I were to get an SG I would want it to be red. That’s how I talked myself out of shelling out the dough.

That was also the store where I dropped off my ES-335. I just want to see about getting the pots and the pickup switch cleaned, and if need be re-soldered. I also asked them to look at the neck to see if it was going to hold or not. It’s pulling away from the body slowly. I haven’t noticed any movement in years, but it might be a matter of time. The guy working the repair desk said sometimes they have trouble working on semi-hollow guitars because the guts are hard to get to. He also said that his boss usually handles any older guitars (mine is pushing 40), but his boss was out sick. It might be a while before I hear back.

That also means that at some point in the near future I will be returning to that shop, and I doubt I’ll be able to stop myself if that certain black Gibson SG Standard is still for sale.

Still Safe

I just left guitar center. I walked in with a guitar and a price in mind. If they had it, I was going home with it.

Sooooo close. They had the model I wanted at exactly my max price…

But it was the wrong color. Maybe I’ll hit another store too, just in case.

They also did not have any of the amps on my want list. We are still safe… for a few minutes at least.

Trouble

I might be in trouble today.

I’m planning on bringing one of my guitars to Guitar Center for a few little repairs. Nothing major, just a tune up (not literally, and pun intended).

The trouble comes from having out of control Gear Acquisition Syndrome and being in a store full of guitars for sale.

Trouble. Big trouble.
