I’ve been working for the same company for 15 years. The dress code is business casual. Over the course of my 15 years I have never shown up for work in anything that was outside of the code. Never. Not once.
This morning I got up early, threw on some dirty clothes and a pair of sneakers and took out the trash and brought the barrels to the street. I then said goodbye to my wife and told her I loved her and wished her a good day and a safe drive and then started my normal routine. I don’t know if any of that early start stuff messed me up somehow, but…
The drive to work was long. It took me about an hour and 45 minutes. When I parked the car and got out I immediately felt like something was wrong. I couldn’t put my finger on it. I started walking toward the garage exit and the feeling kept growing stronger and stronger.
Then I realized what was off and I stopped dead in my tracks.
My feet.
I was wearing sneakers.
15 effin’ years without a dress code screw up and there I was, about to walk into the building wearing sneakers instead of shoes.
Robert, what the hell is wrong with you?
Stupid sneakers. Stupid, stupid sneakers.
Maybe nobody noticed…
