VR
I just tried out a VR headset for the first time. I used a Google Cardboard with my iPhone. I watched some roller coaster game thing. It looked pretty awesome.
It also made me feel a little car sick.
You know the VR works when you need Dramamine.
When Al’s 64
Today is this guy’s 64th birthday:
Happy Birthday, Alex Lifeson.
Also of note, there is a rumor going around that Mr Lifeson and Rush bandmate Geddy Lee might be thinking about starting a new band. Now that Neil Peart is retired and unwilling to get back out there, the two remaining Rush members have to decide how they want to spend their 60’s. Word is that Geddy is very interested in continuing to work, but has no actual project in mind. Further word is that Al has been enjoying the downtime but is starting to get the musical bug again. Therefore we get the rumors that the two of them might start writing together again and a new band might be in the future.
My feelings are mixed. Their solo records (Alex’s is under the name Victor) are both good but not quite up to par with Rush. Maybe both of them working together might have better results. I wonder what they’d do as far as a lineup is concerned? Obviously a new drummer who would forever be negatively compared to Neil, and rightfully so. Would there be a full time keyboard player? Would there be a second guitarist? Would there be additional vocalists? Might they go all King Crimson and add a sax player or violinist? No idea.
I’m still hoping that somewhere down the line they will record a new Rush record with Neil. They don’t have to tour, just hang out at Al’s house and use his home studio and record some new music. That would be ideal, but I don’t see it happening.
Who knows.
Yours truly,
A Rush fanatic in withdrawals.
Just Saying
Netflix Sadness
A few weeks ago I was sitting at home and wanted to watch something on the tube. I was pretty lame. There was nothing on my TV/movie to-do list so I just searched around. I decided to watch an episode or two of The League. My beloved and I had watched that series together and laughed our asses off. I thought it was a good choice.
…and then….
As I clicked on season 1 episode 1 Netflix posted a message. This show is going away on August 31st. Crap. Now I want to watch the whole series. I’m up to season five, but I don’t think I have enough time to finish the full series. I am so sad. I am Netflix Sadface.
Proof
I have often said on this and many other social media services that I have been a Star Wars fanatic since the movie was released. I now have photographic proof that these statements are true.
Today is my little brother John’s 40th birthday. Let’s all take a second to wish him a happy birthday. Happy birthday, John! Now back to the story.
My sister posted a handful of pictures of my little brother when he was little, little. Including one of his first birthday party. 1978. Just over a year after the release of the original Star Wars. Let’s look at the photo, shall we?

See the red head who looks like he’s about seven years old? See how that red head is wearing a Star Wars t-shirt? I’ll give you all three guesses who that Star Wars fanatic red head is/was…
Go on. Guess…
It’s me. Photographic proof that in 1978, just over a year after the release of Star Wars, I was already a t-shirt toting fanboy. Fanatic from the beginning: Confirmed.

Vacation: Ending
My week plus long vacation is coming to an end. I have to go back to work tomorrow. I already know that I have a big paperwork issue to handle before the end of the week. I’m not looking forward to that. In fact, I am not looking forward to going back. It’s not that I don’t like my job, that’s not the case at all, it’s just that I enjoy being on vacation more than not being on vacation.
I still have one last straw to clutch. Powerball. The estimated jackpot for tonight is $700,000,000. Seven hundred million dollars. Did I buy a ticket? Oh yes, I bought a ticket. Even if we win tonight (and we will, oh yes we will) I will still go to work tomorrow. The difference will be that I’ll get to give my notice. Sorry, folks, but I am now disgustingly rich with lottery winnings so I am going to finish off everything I’ve been working on of late and then go find something else to do for a living… with the distinct possibility that my new career will at least temporarily involve laying on a Southern California beach all day.
A boy can dream, can’t he?
