| Body | When your team goes down 3 games to 1 in a playoff series it’s hard to be optimistic. When I find myself rooting for a team in that situation there is really only one thing that I can honestly hope for: One More Game.
The Red Sox lost game 4 to go down 3-1. Thursday night I wasn’t hoping desperately for a win, or for the series, or for Tampa to lose or anything like that. I was hoping for One More Game. Some how they managed to pull victory from the jaws of defeat and they gave me what I wanted. One More Game. Last night they were down 3 games to 2 in the other team’s stadium. I wasn’t hoping for a win, or the other team to lose. I was hoping for One More Game. Some how once again, the Red Sox gave me One More Game. Tonight is game 7. Winner takes all. I am not hoping for the series, or the World Series, or for nasty things to happen to Tampa Bay’s players or anything like that. I am hoping for One More Game for my Red Sox. A win tonight would actually give them at least four more games in the World Series, but I just want One More Game. I don’t want the Sox to be done for the year just yet. A win tonight gives us One More Game. That’s what I’m hoping for. Apparently The Beatles are too. Yesterday we had a fan-freakin-tastic day with the kids. We went to Harry’s karate class, where Bellana is an assistant instructor. After that we went home and did something utterly awesome. The two kids and I sat down on the couch and watch Star Wars. It goes without saying that their Dad had already watched the greatest of all movies with them. They have actually seen all but Return of the Sith which is a bit too heavy for them just now. But this was the first time we’d cooled out watching Luke and Han and Leia and Chewbakka and Darth Vader and all those Storm Troopers running around the Death Star kicking each other’s asses. It was AWESOME! After the movie we did another fantastic thing. Jen and the kids and I all went to The Border Cafe in Burlington. We’d tried to take the kids to my favorite restaurant once before but it was on a weeknight and it was packed to the rafters and Harry walked in the door and felt ill right away. Yesterday they consented to give it another go, and they liked it. So for the first time the kids went to my favorite restaurant with me AND they watched my all time favorite movie with me. By 2:00pm it was already the best day ever. On the way to the Border Cafe we listened to The Beatles, Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. After lunch we went to Smolak Farms in North Andover. We checked out the playground and the animals and then met up with the Geyers; Mike, Tammy, and Cecilia and went on a Halloween hay ride. A tractor pulled us through the farm and every now and then a Disney Character would come out of the crops and give the kids candy. Again, just plain Awesome. After that we went to dinner with the Geyers and Harry and Bellana were just nuts about Cecilia. She turns two next month and she was the life of the party. She’s adorable. On the way to the farm and to dinner we listened to The Beatles, Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. We got home at 8:05 and I dashed to the television to turn on TBS to watch game seven of the ALCS between Steve Harvey and Steve Harvey. I was about 2 heartbeats away from a complete temper tantrum meltdown. I ended up online watching an espn.com gamecast and talking on the phone to my father while he listened on the radio. When the coverage came back on Harry and Bellana both ran into the room yelling it to let me know. My father heard it too and he said the kids had made his day too. The day just kept getting better! Then the Red Sox gave me that One More Game that I wanted so badly. And we all have The Beatles to thank. As I said the other day, listening to Sgt Pepper on game day has so far caused the Red Sox to win. I mentioned the exact formula for succest last year on October 23, 2007. Allow me to quote it here once more: Jennifer in her genius did the math: Beatles + Red Sox = Wins. This morning we all got up a little late and I went to my computer, brought up iTunes, used the sort function to bring up Sgt Pepper, clicked the repeat button, clicked the play button, and then went off to start my day. We listened to it six times before moving on to Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, and Abbey Road. Once we get through Let it Be, I will go back to looping through Pepper until game time. I’ve probably over done it a little bit, but I really want One More Game and I will do what I have to do in order to make that happen. Go Red Sox |
