| Body | Yesterday I reported that my girlfriend is cooler than yours. One of the countless reasons being that she managed to snag a pair of tickets for game 1 of the ALDS series between the California Anaheim Los Angeles Angels and the Mighty Boston Red Sox.
We sat in Section 7, Box 93. The crowd was seriously obnoxious for most of the game. It seemed that very few of the fans who had paid insulting amounts of money for their tickets were actually there to see the game. We probably missed one out of every two pitches for the first four or five innings because people were constantly in the aisles blocking the view. Fortunately the over all experience was so friggin’ cool that it didn’t bother me too much. (although I admit, F-Bombs were dropped in the direction of specific repeat offenders) It was a playoff game! I had never made it to a Red Sox playoff game before last night. Bruins? Sure, bunches of the, (highlights being that fucking Tim Taylor toe in the crease double over time loss against Washington, and the last game in which they wrapped up a series…against Carolina in 99 I think.) Celtics? Yup, once. It was at the old Garden. One of Larry Bird’s last hoorahs. But never a post season Sox game. Until my incredible girlfriend made it happen last night. I was a little nervous that I had become a Josh Beckett jinx. He went 20-7 for the regular season and I was at two of those seven losses, including his last start of the regular season last Thursday. Fortunately the jinx is broken. He gave what might have been the best pitching performance I have ever seen in person. He dominated. A four hit shut out. After a lead off single by Chone Figgins in the first he recorded 19 consecutive outs. Eight strike outs and no walks. A completely dominating performance. As for the offense? Youk hit a solo home run in the first. We actually couldn’t see the pitch because some douche bag was standing in front of us, but we did see it land in the Monster seats. David Ortiz hit a blast into the right field seats too. It just wouldn’t have been proper to see a Red Sox playoff game without seeing Big Papi hit a home run. How about the defense? Coco Crisp made a highlight film catch in center field. In the ninth inning, defensive replacement Jacoby Ellsbury made a diving catch in left field too. They say there was an equally stellar play by Mike Lowell at third base, but due to the constant flow of assholes up and down the stairs we missed that one. I took the obligatory million pictures. I am including a slide show of those that sucked the least. All in all it was a terrific experience and I’m so glad that Jen made it happen. My girlfriend really is cooler than yours. Go Red Sox! Good Day |
