The Handmaid’s Tale Finale

The final episode of The Handmaid’s Tale is out. I watched it before work this morning. I have two spoiler-free (or if not spoiler-free, then spoiler-light) thoughts.

First, I was curious about how they were going to set things up for the sequel show, The Testaments. I thought maybe they would resolve some story lines in ways that would change things for the next show. They did not. They left almost everything right where it should be. I was of two minds on that. On the one hand I thought it was good because I want the next show to succeed. On the other… I really wanted to see some happy endings that would have ruined The Testaments. Maybe not ruined, but significantly altered. So… yeah.

The other take away is pretty much the same as last week’s episode. Did I ball my freakin’ eyes out while watching it? Why yes, yes I did.

I seriously hate what this phenomenal show does to me. I don’t want to feel those feelings. I don’t want to live in a world that is sliding out of control toward the seemingly inevitable Gilead outcome. Can’t reality just fast forward through all of that shit and treat it like an archeological study?

Yeah, it’s a fantastic show and my tears and I are going to miss it when it’s gone.

Failure to Stick the Landing

The Great X-Files Rewatch Adventure has reached an important moment. Season nine episode 19. The first half of what was expected to be the series finale. Let’s ignore for the moment that they made a second movie a few years later, and then added two new seasons many years later. This was supposed to be it. A two part series finale.

And it was not good.

I mean, I remember it being okay but not nearly good enough. They had a chance to end it with a bang but instead they just failed to stick the landing. They failed to give the show the send off it deserved.

Now, in 2024, let’s see if it was as meh as I remember it. After that, I’ll watch the second movie for the first time since Jen and I saw it in the theater in 2008 (I think).

Oh Sweet Merciful Monday, It Is Finally Over!

Fear the Walking Dead is Over! The series has completed! After eight seasons, the last five of which are the worst television ever produced, they have finally put us out of our misery!

The last two episodes aired last night. I watched them this morning while exercising and eating breakfast and good lord they were AWEFUL. I mean… Holy shit, were they terrible! I was literally laughing out loud at the majority of the “dramatic” moments. The writing was so atrocious that it was funny. Not funny in a good way, but funny in an “I can’t believe how pathetic this is, how did this garbage make it to the air” kind of way.

Who cares though, the show is over. It will never come back again. Stick a fork in it, it’s done! I am so happy for the members of the cast who are now free to work on good TV shows and movies and literally anything they want without ever having to work on this shit heap of idiocy ever again. You are free, people! You are finally and mercifully free!

I feel so relieved. I no longer have to question my sanity as I hate watch the worst show on television, purely for the sake of completeness. This once fantastic show turned into a rusting, leaking, septic tank of bad and I no longer feel compelled to watch another second.

We are all free! We are all freed from the tyranny of the terrible TV show! Rejoice! Rejoice!

DC Finales

I just wrapped up my watching of two DC Comics series. After nine years I am finally done with The Flash. We started watching this as a family when it initially aired. Both kids dropped off after a few seasons but I stuck with it. It wasn’t good over the last couple of seasons. I can’t deny that fact. It was still 10000000 times better than Fear the Walking Dead (new episode tonight) and I’m still watching that fuck of a dumpster fire so there you go. I’m sad that The Flash is over. Even though no one was watching with me anymore, I still see it as something I watched with the kids and I miss that.

I also just watched the final episode of Titans. That show wasn’t terribly good at the end either, but again it wasn’t that bad. I got onto the bandwagon pretty late but it was a decent show. I’m not sad it’s over, but I am glad that I watched the whole thing, even if it was mostly just for completeness sake.

The only other DC show I’m still sort of into is Pennyworth, and I haven’t watched an episode of that in months. I’m in the middle of season two and it’s losing me, but I will still pick away at it. Now DC needs to bring back The Peacemaker because that show was freakin’ hilarious. I could handle another season of that one.

Next DC thing for me will probably be The Flash movie. Ezra Miller appears to be a piece of garbage as a human and I will never forgive them for the horrible things they did to Stephen King’s The Stand. You need to publicly apologize for that one, you asshole. What the hell were you thinking? The movie is supposed to be good though, and two words: Michael Fucking Keaton.

So there you have it. My DC TV/Movies update. You’re welcome.
