Three Bodies of Water in One Morning Part One: The Mighty Spicket River

Did I go out shootin’ pitchers this morning? You know it babie! The air was cold but the sun was bright and the sky was perfectly clear. I thought about going to Tewksbury and checking on the Shawsheen River and Long Pond and maybe Ames Pond but we had people coming to pick up the couch we donated and I didn’t want to go that far from home. Instead I visited the three biggest bodies of water in Methuen. The Spicket River, Forrest Lake, and the mother of them all, the Merrimack River.

I took a few pictures at each location, going slightly overboard at the Merrimack, but we’ll get to that later. First, some shitty pictures of the muddy and gross looking Spicket. It’s super low, but not nearly as low as it was the last time I checked on her.

The Mighty Spicket has seen better days, but it’s not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. This is on Hampshire Street, just a few minutes after the sun came up.

The sun wasn’t getting through the trees to the water, but it was pretty freakin’ glorious out on the road. Is this why they call it golden hour?

The next post will be Forrest Lake and after that will be the Merrimack (where I went a little overboard).

Two Stops This Morning – Color Edition

Part two of this morning’s visits to the Methuen Rail Trail and Canobie Lake. This time in color.

Can you see the ducks? There are a bunch of them.

I like this one, but I prefer the black and white version. No one is more surprised than I am.

I wanted to have a car in the shot and I didn’t have to wait long. By the time I left there was a traffic jam.

I don’t like rainy days, but we seriously need a bunch of them right now.

Two Stops This Morning – Black and White Edition

I brought cameras to two locations today. First was the Methuen Rail Trail, and later was a boat launch spot on Canobie Lake in Windham. Here are the monochrome pics in sort of reverse order.

This is officially pic 1/365 on the new photo-a-day project.

The drought is bad at Canobie Lake. It’s worse at the Spicket River, but those pics are still to come.

I have no idea where this bridge over the rail trail is. It looks like an old foot bridge. I might have to look for it on Google Maps or something.

I took color versions of all of these as well, so that will come later today. Most of them have film equivalents too. You’ll see those… someday.

Merrimack River in Black and White

I stopped at the river on my way to visit mom today and took a few pictures. I got a few on film and then switched to the same ol’ digital black and white vs vivid mode again. Here’s a few black and whites…

Digital vs Analog Comparison

I started the film page with the idea that I wouldn’t post film images on this page (unless they were reblogged from the other page). I also said I was going to post digital vs film comparisons because… because. So I guess that allows me to post a few film pics, right?

Last week I put on a record and took a spinning media picture. Pretty sure I posted it here. I also took about the same shot with the Nikon Ebay film camera too. I think everything about the digital pic is better, but I also think I prefer the film pic. Maybe I am just an old fashioned sucker.

This one is digital:

This one is film:

Isn’t that interesting?

Now we move to Methuen’s little downtown area, specifically the used record store. I’ve taken this three times, one digital and two film, one with each camera. The two Nikons have a wider lens than the Pentax, so the Pentax is zoomed in much more than the other two, but you’ll get the gist of it.

This one is digital, it’s also portrait:

This one is film from the Nikon and it’s landscape:

This one is Dad’s Pentax. Like I said, it’s zoomed in more. It also has a coloring that might be from the roll of film or it might be from scanning it with my iPhone or maybe it might be because it was within about an hour after sunrise while the other two were later in the morning. I don’t know exactly, but I kinda like it.

Which one do I like best? I think the second one. The Nikon film one. I think I will do the Pentax one again at some point. If I do, I won’t get it developed at CVS and I won’t be scanning it with my iPhone.

Now I just have to try to remember not to reblog whatever posts these film shots end up on. I can do that (but I’ll probably fail).
