Friday

It’s Friday morning, just after six am. Everyone’s favorite work day. The weekend is almost here, and it’s going to be a busy one.

Kids stuff tomorrow. Karate, band, some other stuff. Errands like food shopping and unclogging a drain in the bathroom. It’s time to start raking leaves, but I think I can delay that a week. I need to buy clothes, my last good work shirt lost a fight with some spilled buffalo sauce the other day, and I need a haircut. Sunday means my band practice, the last before our next gig. There will be more errands, and I want us to be able to eat dinner together before I leave for practice.

It looks like a very busy weekend for me, but it’s the good kind of busy. It’s busy doing things with my family, mostly. That’s the kind of busy I can get behind.

Red Sox: Feels Like Pre-2004

There are so many people today who are fans of the Boston Red Sox who have no idea what it means to be a fan of the Boston Red Sox. Once they finally won the World Series, back in 2004, the idea of the Fellowship of the Miserable sort of went away. Now, 12 years later, it’s a distant memory.

For those who don’t understand what it used to be like, let’s just say that last night was like old times.

The Sox magic number to clinch the American League East was one. One Red Sox win or one Toronto Blue Jays loss and the Sox are division champs. The Blue Jays were playing Baltimore, and the Red Sox were playing the Yankees (of course).

Late in the game down in New York, the word comes through that the Blue Jays have lost. Congratulations, Red Sox, you’ve won the division. They had a 3–0 lead and just needed to put away the Yankees so they could start celebratin’.

Bottom of the ninth, their closer on the mound. Kimbrel decides he doesn’t want to throw any strikes. One hit and a slew of walks later and it’s 3–1 Yankees. In comes Joe Kelley to try clean up Kimbrel’s mess. At first it looks like he might get through it. He gets the first two hitters out. Then, bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, two outs, friggin’ Mark Teixeira hits a grand slam. Yankees win, 5–3.

This is what the damn Red Sox used to do to us all the time. Just as it’s time to start the party… lose in gut wrenchingly awful fashion.

Thanks for the memories, guys. Now DON’T DO IT AGAIN!

The First Presidential Debate

I can’t bring myself to watch the Presidential debate tonight. My loathing of the fascist the Republican party nominated would result in me screaming at him at the top of my lungs, and eventually his disgusting fascist lies would cause me to lose my shit and throw something through the television.

My wife and I have been watching The Man in the High Castle over the last few days. It’s a story of what America would have been like had we lost World War II. All I can think while watching is that the Nazis didn’t need to win the war. They just had to wait patiently for the United States to turn fascist on it’s own. They just had to wait for 2016.

Practice Time

Just getting ready to go to band practice. We’re going to be short a singer tonight (he’s in Chicago… I still think we should try rehearsing over skype) so the focus is on tightening up the rest of us.

The downside for me right now is that I am exhausted to the point of distraction. I took a shower today at about 11:30 and ever since I sat down to tie my shoes following that shower I have been on the verge of sleep. I went out to run some errands and that was okay, but as soon as I got home I just wanted to sleep. I expect that this will carry over to practice tonight and I will suck something fierce.

13 days to our next gig. I am going to do a lot of practicing at home. Probably going to be noodling on the guitar while watching TV with the kids after work and stuff. I will be ready when the time comes. Hell, I’m almost ready right now. Just not tonight… Urgh. Is it bed time?

On a related note, my wife and I started binge watching The Man in the High Castle last night. After practice we expect to have enough time to watch two more episodes before we have to give up and go to bed…

We have three episodes left.

Nooooooooo!!!!!

Musical Morning

It’s been a musical morning so far. I did some work on my 50/90 failure. I recorded lead guitars for five songs. I’ve got seven more to do but my finger tips are starting to sting pretty bad, and I have a band practice tonight. So I think I’ll take a break, then maybe practice for rehearsal tonight, then maybe sneak in one or two, and then be paralyzed from the top knuckle up for a day or two. Totally worth it.

50/90 ends in six days, and Lizardfish gig #2 is in 13 days. No problem!
