Pasta Watch

Updating the numbers after last night’s game, David Pastrnak failed to score in the 5-4 overtime comeback win over Minnesota that sounded like it was a super awesome comeback but I missed the whole thing.

So Pastrnak is at 20 goals and the Bruins have played 23 games.  That’s probably enough to stop worrying about this, but I’ll keep en eye out for a few more games to see what happens.

On an interesting side note, Brad Marchand is now up to 16 goals.  Do we need to start a March Watch too?  (no, but so what)

Great Show

We are old.  We got to the Paradise a few minutes before the opening band, Speedy Ortiz, started their set.  My back and my legs were already bothering me but I hadn’t gone in search of a pole to lean on yet.  Larry laughed and said something like, I don’t want to stand here for hours.  He was right.  None of us did.  When we were 25 we did, but at a year and change shy of 50?  We’re old!  That’s when I went to find a pole to lean against and I didn’t leave it until Cleo’s encore ~2.5 hours later.

Speedy Ortiz went on at 8:00ish.  I think they were good.  The sound was pretty bad.  Tons of drums (he was really, really good) and a little voice on top, and a ton of mud in the middle.  It got better as they went on and I liked them enough that I’ll go looking for more.

Letters to Cleo came on at 9:25 or so and it was bliss.  I could have done without the Christmas music but otherwise it was every bit as good as we had hoped it would be.  The mix was tons better than the first band and it was very loud.  I forgot my ear plugs so maybe it was louder than I’m used to, but it was loud.  Really loud.  Really very loud.  It was awesome.  Well, I’m sitting here the next morning with ears that have recovered so it was awesome. If my hearing was still squishy and fuzzy I might not be as happy about it.  That’s all my fault though.

When they came back for their encore there was a guest.  Allow me to go back in time and set this up from my perspective.  Back in the 90’s (I can’t say that phrase without singing the Bojack Horseman theme song) Cleo did a bunch of songs for movie soundtracks.  One of them was a cover of “Dangerous Type” by The Cars.  Greg Hawkes, the keyboard player from The Cars, played on that recording.  Later, he also played on a song (just one?) on Cleo’s last record.  There was one show that we went to, pretty sure it was at Avalon on Lansdowne Street, where he sat in with them for a couple of Cars covers.  Larry remembered that one, but Mike didn’t.  Was he there?  I thought he was.  Last night he sat in with them again for three songs.  Both of the songs he recorded with them, and “Bye Bye Love.”  It was glorious.  All of the band members were beaming with glee to have him there.  They sounded great, he sounded great, it was great.

I took a few pics.  They all suck.  I don’t care, it was fun.

There were a couple of stage lights that seemed to be targeting me.  It makes the bad pictures worse, but I think it’s funny so deal with it.

Interestingly (no it isn’t), the iPhone XS Max seems to have been the better choice over the Nikon Coolpix.

And there you have it.  Until next year’s Letters to Cleo Homecoming Tour.

Tickets: Acquired

This post has nothing to do with my tickets to tonight’s Letters to Cleo Homecoming show at the Paradise, although I did just check my wallet to make sure the tickets are safely there for about the 10th time in the last two 2.5 hours.

No, this time we’re talking about a different ticket.  A ticket to a galaxy far, far away…

I just bought tickets to a showing on the 21st, the day after the movie is released.  I bought tickets for all of us, though I don’t know if my step daughter will be home from school or not.  If she’s home and she wants to go, I have a seat for her.  If my wife or my step son have to work then that’s fine too.  If they’re free and they want to go, I have a seat for each of them.

29 days and counting.

Pasta-Watch

I am not insinuating anything with this post.  I’m just tracking numbers for no reason at all.  No jinxing happening here.  I promise.

The Boston Bruins have played 22 games.

David Pasternak has 20 goals.

The Other Shoe?

2008-12-08 - Letters to Cleo @ the Paradise - Kodak 174

Is the other shoe going to drop?  Last year I had Letters to Cleo tickets and something blew up last minute and stopped me from going to the show (I don’t remember what it was).

This year I have Letters to Cleo tickets and I thought something was going to stop me from going but it didn’t happen.  Now I’m sitting at work, 5.5 hours before the doors open at The Paradise in Boston.  I’ve got the tickets in an envelop sitting next to me and Mike and Larry and I are trying to figure out where to meet up so we can drive into the city together.

The other shoe hasn’t dropped.  Will it?  If it does, what will it be?  Car troubles?  An alien invasion?  Zombies?  Militant anti-vaxxers in a gang war against militant flat-Earthers battling to the death to see which is actually the dumber faction?

What’s it going to be?

No idea.

ADDENDUM: I moved the tickets from the envelop on my desk to my wallet in my pocket.  I didn’t want to risk forgetting them when I leave tonight… or having someone accidentally take them and drop them into the mail… or a mysterious gust of wind blowing them off the desk onto the floor and then under a file cabinet where they would remain lost until we move out of the building at some future date.

Now I just have to worry about pick pockets… and holes in my clothes… and fires… and………
