| Body | I took a comp day today. I just wish it could have been for a cheerier reason. My uncle Jack passed away on Saturday at age 74. His wife was my mother’s older sister who was also my godmother. Today was his funeral. Jen came with me today, and to the wake last night. I’m afraid she was a bit overwhelmed by the size of my family. Technically by the size of my mother’s side of the family. I have 17 first cousins. 8 of them were Uncle Jack’s kids. Jack also had 15 grand kids. Suffice to say my girlfriend isn’t all that accustomed to family gatherings that are quite so large. I had a few moments of hypocrisy, or at least hypocritical thinking. I was raised Catholic. I don’t consider myself very Catholic anymore. I am disgusted by the actions of the church in recent years, and my christian beliefs are all but nil now. But I went to a Catholic wake and a Catholic funeral mass and I participated in the services. Hypocrisy? Sure, but I can live with it today. I’m seriously exhausted. Really Really Tired. We got home around 4pm this afternoon and I just went to my room to sleep. I haven’t slept yet, but I did watch a couple of movies I’d never seen. I liked them both, but I can’t tell if it was because they were good flicks or if I was just so tired they fascinated my wiped-out brain. Children of Men was dark and gloomy but somehow uplifting at the same time. The British army is fighting terrorists while a mountain of civilians are caught in the cross fire and at the sound of a crying baby everything stops. The baby is carried out of harms way and as soon as she’s clear the fight starts again. That worked for me, but again I might just have been over tired. After that I watched Little Miss Sunshine. Was it just me or was the grandfather the funniest character in movie history? Now I’m watching the Bruins. They are ahead of Buffalo 1-0 halfway through the second period. I’m pretty sure I will be asleep before this game ends, so I can just hope that when Buffalo comes back to take the lead I will already have dozed off. Jen and I are going to see the Lowell Devils on the road in Manchester on Saturday. I hate the Manchester Monarchs. Sunday we, along with my sister and her husband, are going to see The Police. I can’t wait. It’s going to be another great weekend, I know it. Until then, however… goodnight everyone. |
