| Body | Game 1 of the World Series between the Colorado Rockies and the Glorious, Magnificent, Triumphant, Heroic Boston Red Sox takes place tonight at Fenway Park in Boston.
Jen and I have Lowell Devils tickets tonight so we’re going to start the evening with some AHL hockey. The Devils start at 7:05 and the Sox start at 8:30ish so we’re going to miss a few innings of baseball, but I’m sure the Tsongas will have baseball on all of it’s concourse and luxury box televisions so we’ll be able to follow from a distance. After the hockey game we are going to scoot over to the nearest bar to watch the rest of the Red Sox game. After attending two Red Sox playoff games thus far Jen and I have developed a few superstitions. I think by following these minor rituals she and I bring victory to our team. The first one is based on an observation Jen made Saturday night at game 6. If you listen to The Beatles before the game, the Red Sox win. We had to jump through a number of hoops on the way to the first game of the Division Series against the Angels. In the midst of a minor freak out I noticed that Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was playing over the Fenway PA system. It seemed as if The Fab Four themselves were predicting a Red Sox victory (even though John Lennon lived his last years in New York City… ugh). As fate would have it, the Sox not only one the game, but the series. As we were walking to our seats prior to game 6 of the American League Championship Series against the Indians Fenway again cranked out Pepper. History shows that the Sox also won that game, and the series. Jennifer in her genius did the math: Beatles + Red Sox = Wins. So to honor that math we have been listening to Pepper prior to games. It worked for Sunday’s game 7 against Cleveland, and we both agree it’s going to work today. We are both at work listening to Pepper, all but insuring our team’s success tonight. So, if you want the Red Sox to win tonight, tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday (please sweep guys, my heart can’t take the stress) make sure you play The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in it’s entirety at some point before the game starts.
